Age 79 Of Portage Allen J. Beebe, age 79 of Portage, died peacefully at his home and surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 27, 2010. He was born in Lansing on January 9, 1931 the son of Maynard J. and Nona (Thomas) Beebe. Allen graduated from Mendon High School in 1949 and later graduated from Michigan State University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-54. He was married to Joyce Haas on Nov. 27, 1954 in Saint Edward Catholic Church in Mendon and they have resided in Portage since their marriage. Allen was associated with the Beltone Hearing Aid Company for many years. Allen is survived by his wife, Joyce; five children and their spouses, Lori Ann and Tim Vargason of Kalamazoo, Timothy and Debra Beebe of Portage, Kathy Lynn and Brian O'Boyle of Morgantown, WV, Jane and Mark Bainbridge of Kalamazoo, and Patrick and Susan Beebe of Jackson; 13 grandchildren, Caitlyn and Chelsea Vargason, Justin (Sarah) Beebe, Brandon, Cassandra, and Jennifer Beebe, Colin and Bridget O'Boyle, Lauren and! Emily Bainbridge, Sophia, Lily, and Annabelle Beebe; one brother, Robert Beebe of Palm Springs, CA.; and many in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a daughter, Alycia Marie Beebe. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home Mendon and where there will be a Scripture Service held at 6:30 PM. The funeral mass will be 11 AM Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Center Street in Portage with Rev. Father Christopher Ankley, Associate Pastor officiating. The family will also receive friends for one hour prior to services at the church. Following mass and a luncheon at the church, interment will take place in Saint Edward Catholic Cemetery in Mendon at 3 PM. Memorials may be directed to either the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
