WATERMAN, 70, of 725 Academy street, retired building contractor and active in Masonic and other fraternal circles, died in Mercy hospital, Benton Harbor, at 5:30 Sunday morning, the result of injuries received Friday afternoon in an automobile accident in M-139 and Napier avenue, south of Benton Harbor. Three other persons injured in the same accident, remained in serious condition at Mercy hospital today. They are Mrs. Anna WATERMAN, 58 of Castle Shannon, Pa., skull fracture and internal injuries; George DIETRICH, 34 of Castle Shannon, Pa., fracture of the back and George DIETRICH Jr., 15, of Castle Shannon, Pa., fracture of the ankle. In addition to these major injuries, the three persons suffered cuts and bruises. Widow Leaves Hospital: Mrs. Fred WATERMAN, 69, the fourth person injured in the crash was released from the hospital Sunday, and returned to her hom! e in Kalamazoo. The fatal accident occurred when the car operated by Waterman and a truck driven by Joseph SMITH, Elkhart, Ind., and owned by Bursley and Company, South Bend, Ind., collided at the intersection. The WATERMAN car was forced across the lawn of the home of Hugo Selig, struct a corner of the house and tore out several foundation stones. Deputies of the Berrien County sheriff's department, investigated the accident. The body of Mr. WATERMAN was brought to the Wagner [sic] and Clark funeral home in Kalamazoo Sunday. Native of Pittsburgh: Mr. WATERMAN was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis WATERMAN. When he was 8 years old, he moved with his parents to Washington, Kas. In 19903, when 34 years old, he came to Kalamazoo and established himself in the contracting business. He was married in 1892 to Miss Caroline LAMPE, Pittsburgh, Pa. Mr. WATERMAN was a member of Kalamazoo lodge, F. and A.M., was a 32nd degree Mason, was a member of Corin! thian Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, the Knights of Pythias, and the Modern Woodmen. He was an active member of the Townsend club movement here. Funeral Wednesday: Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Caroline WATERMAN, Kalamazoo; a daughter, Mrs. Pearl PARSONS, Texas Corners; four grandchildren, and four brothers and four sisters, all of whom reside in the West. Friends are being received at the home, 725 Academy street, until 12 noon, Wednesday.
