'Betty" Of Portage Formerly of East Lynn, IL Passed away Wednesday morning, April 23, 2008 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. Betty was born August 2, 1920 in East Lynn, IL, the daughter of Walter and Edith (Luxton) McConnell. She graduated from Brokaw Nursing School and worked at Hines VA Hospital in Chicago and Babyfold in Bloomington before her career with the American Can Company as an Occupational Nurse. She was a member of the East Lynn United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School Nursery teacher for many years. Betty was a loving caregiver to those in need and enjoyed helping others. She moved to Portage in 2000 where she attended Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed embroidery, quilting, and following the Chicago Cubs. Surviving are her sisters and brother, Helen (Bob) Vessey, Ruth McConnell, Walter "Tom" McConnell, Edith "Sue" Randall; nieces and nephews, Jon Vessey, Mary Ann (Lynn) Frederick, David Vessey, Russell Randall, Jackie (Marc) Kline; g! reat nieces and nephews, Luke, Ty, Leah, and Hope. There will be no visitation and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 29 at the Portage Chapel Hill United Methodist Church at 1:00 PM.
