Dale Broekema, 65, of 1206 Glenwood Park Drive in Elkhart, Indiana went home to be with his Savior on Friday, April 25, 2008. He was born on January 24, 1943 to Jacob and Gertrude (Onderlinde) Broekema in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He spent the last 44 years of his life with his soul mate Irene (Van Elk) Broekema. They were married on January 24, 1964. His beloved family will forever treasure memories of their time with him. He is survived by the love of his life, Irene Broekema; mother, Gertrude Post, Kalamazoo; brothers and sisters, Stanley Broekema, Castro Valley, CA; Dave Broekema, Kalamazoo; Ruth Rost, Mesa, AZ; Jan Van Dyke, Kalamazoo; children, Lisa Agema, Kalamazoo; Tamara Redfoot, Denver, CO; Brenda Roose, Goshen; Christopher Broekema, Denver, CO; grandchildren, Rheana, Spencer, Melissa, Jake and Jesse. His father, Jacob Broekema, and step-father, Fred Post, preceded him in death. Dale attended Kalamazoo Christian High School. He developed a passion for business and worked for Ship-Pac of Kalamazoo and Elkhart for many years. Dale enjoyed living life to its fullest by reaching out to quietly touch the hearts of all those around him. Dale was a Godly, compassionate, man. Many sought out his insightful, solid, and sometimes humorous advice. He most enjoyed creating special moments with his family. His grandchildren agree, a favorite memory is "when grandpa stayed up during an all night storm to watch a movie with them." Dale recently stated that one of his favorite memories was spending time with his family in Ludington walking the pier while eating House of Flavors ice cream cones. He enjoyed many activities; gardening and home improvement projects, studying the bible, painting ceramics, and joining friends for breakfast or coffee. Most important to Dale was his relationship to God and family. At his request, a memorial service will be held to honor that which he held most precious, Tuesday, April 29, 11:00 AM at McCoy Memorial Baptist Church, 134 St. Clair Ave, Elkhart, IN. Memorials may be dona! ted online to Compassion International, one of Dale's favorite charities. Published in the Kalamazoo Gazette on 4/27/2008.
