He was born February 2, 1945 in Los Angeles, California to the late Irving Clayton "Bud" Maust and Glen Marie (Reche) Maust. Bob was a graduate of Grosse Ile High School, class of 1963, Michigan State University, class of 1967, where he was President of his senior class, and Wayne State University, where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1971. Bob loved to cook, garden, fish, read, listen to music and travel. He had been a member of a number of sports and service organizations, including Trout Unlimited and Rotary International. Bob was recently married, on December 31, 2007. He is survived by his wife and partner of 20 years, Gail Griffin, children Meredith (Hector) Hector and Michael Maust, the children of Julie Desy, as well as siblings Breon (Charles) Lott and Brian (Rita) Maust, step-mother Sara Maust, and step-sister Mary Jo (James) Hartle, in addition to many nieces and nephews. Bob worked in higher education f! or almost 40 years. Most recently he was the Coordinator for the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Chair of the Standing Committee on Substance Abuse at the University of Colorado-Boulder until his retirement in August of 2007. Previously, he served as the Vice President for Student Affairs at North Adams State College (now the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts), the Vice President of Student Affairs at Kalamazoo College, Dean of Students at Alma College and Dean of Students at Northern Michigan University. A public memorial service will be held Saturday, May 17, at the Kalamazoo Nature Center, 7000 N. Westnedge Avenue, from 10:00 AM to noon. Words of remembrance will begin at 11:00 AM. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2300 Portage Road, Kalamazoo MI 49001 for Robert Maust to honor the memory of his father, Irving Clayton Maust.
