(Stoughton) Passed away May 13, 2008 at home in Nokomis, FL following a brief illness. She was born July 28, 1913 in Paw Paw, MI, to Walter & Goldie (Gault) Stoughton. Her grandparents had a part in founding Covey Hill Baptist Church. She attended Paw Paw Schools. In 1935, she married Elmer Barnes. They had three sons, Charles, Walter & William. After residing in Kalamazoo, they moved to Lansing to own & operate a Dairy Queen. Upon retirement they returned to Long Lake Portage & spent winters in Nokomis, FL. Mrs. Barnes is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 1974 & her son, Bill in 1976. She also is preceded by two brothers, John Stoughton & Howard Stoughton & three sisters, Celia Starr, Eva Hays & Ila Roggow. She is survived by sons, Charles of Venice & Rodney, MI, Walter (Rita) of Hickory Corners, MI & North Port, FL; five grandchildren & four great-grandchildren. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church Nokomis, FL. A memorial service was held at the Church on May 18, 2008. I! nurement will be at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery in Kalamazoo at a later date.
