Larry was born January 15, 1940 in Kalamazoo, the son of Thomas F. and Effie (De Haan) Boven and was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area. He was a 1957 graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School and was attending Northeastern Baptist Church. He was the owner Boven's Quality Plants for 46 years, before "retiring" in 2007. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved flying, hunting, fishing and horses. On December 1, 1961, he married Barbara Foreman, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Laurie (Kevin) Pomeroy of Galesburg, Pamela (Kyle) VanDongen of Galesburg and Christine (William) Kidder of Rochester Hills; nine grandchildren, Shannon and Brendan Pomeroy, Lindsey, Connor, Abbey and Andrew VanDongen and Drew, Zachery and Joshua Kidder; his mother, Effie Boven of Kalamazoo; two sisters, Nancy (Lorence) Wenke of Kalamazoo and Mary! Beth (Richard) Triesenberg of Kalamazoo; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Boven, in 1979. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Haven Church, 5350 N. Sprinkle Rd. with Pastor George Coon officiating. Refreshments will be served immediately following the service. A private family interment will follow. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
