He is now at rest with his wife of 50 years, Renee. Loren is survived by his sons, Gregory (Margaret) Mauchmar of Benton Harbor, Gary Mauchmar of Grand Rapids; his daughters, Debra (Dr. Richard) Bennett of Hudsonville, Denise (David) Lott of Los Alamedos, CA; brother, William Mauchmar of Wayland; sisters, Laurena Dreier of Wayland, Ethelyn McBride of Plainwell; grandchildren, Ryan, Zachary, Audra, Justin, Melissa, Hunter and Adam. Loren proudly served our country as a radio operator in the Navy during World War II. He retired from Eaton Corporation in 1987, after 37 years of dedicated service. Loren was greatly admired for his perseverance and courage after suffering severe speech loss from a stroke in 1998. He was an inspiration to other stroke patients while volunteering at Borgess Hospital and the Speech Therapy department at WMU. Loren wrote a memoir of his service in World War II called, "! Earning My Sparks" and gave away hundreds of copies to many people around the area. He was selected as one of Wayland's Veterans of the Year last November. Loren was a devoted husband, father and a man of integrity and compassion who will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Dave Breen of Sunrise Ministries, officiating. Private Interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery, Kalamazoo. Visitation will be 4 to 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Brookcrest Rehab Nursing Home for their tender care given to Loren during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunrise Ministries Building Fund, P.O. Box 186, Hudsonville, MI 49426, or Wayland VFW Post #7581.
