Of Kalamazoo, MI Passed away peacefully at Rose Arbor Hospice Care on May 6, 2008. Don is a World War II veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He served as a machinists mate on the USS Grand Forks in the South Pacific. He retired from James River. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Platt Walters; his parents, Peter and Flossie (Moden) Walters; brother, Ronald Walters and sister-in-law, Nellie Walters. Don is survived by his children, Donalyn Walters Betterley, Schoolcraft, Peter Walters, Kalamazoo; grandson, Ben (Angel) Betterley; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Brett; sister, Pauline Walters, Kalamazoo; brother, Carl (Martha) Walters, Portage; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James (Sallie) Platt; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, R. Norman (Eva) Platt, Arizona; numerous nephews and nieces. For many years Don actively participated as a member of the Kalamazoo Rod and Gun Club and the North South Skirmish Association. Burial will take place Monday, May 12th at noon Ft. Cust! er National Cemetery with military honors. Family and friends will gather at the Kalamazoo Rod and Gun Club immediately after the ceremony.
