Dick was born in West Virginia, December 25, 1935, the son of Harley & Isabelle (Layton) Wedel. Dick served his country honorably as a member of the Navy Reserves, where he worked on airplanes. He was part owner of Wedel's Garden Center. He was an avid reader, who loved music, ice cream, and the outdoors. Dick took time to travel and enjoy the country. He was a family man who spent precious time with his grandchildren. On Feb. 16, 1957, he married Alice Ruth Gilkison, who preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 2000. Surviving are three children and spouses, Kathy & Richard Peltier, Larry Wedel & Caralyn Hamlin and Mark & Julie Isenberg-Wedel; two grandchildren, Amy (Pat Pecor) Peltier and Rick Peltier; two great-granddaughters, Anna and Marie; all of Kalamazoo; three brothers, Harley (Wanda Reames) Wedel, George (Joyce) Wedel, Roger (Sally) Wedel; a close companion of four years, Joan Gilkison; several nieces ! and nephews. Friends will be received at the funeral home beginning Friday, May 9, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-8PM. Services will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 1PM. Interment in Mt. Ever-Rest North Cemetery.
