POMEROY of Schoolcraft, Passed away January 8, 2004 at the age of 88. Ruth was born July 18, 1915 in Lawton, to Dan and Leona (NELSON) ROOT. She was the oldest of six children. She learned at a very young age to play the piano and it would become her first love. Ruth graduated from Lawton High School, and received her Bachelor's Degree from Western Normal University. On Christmas Eve in 1938 Ruth married Norman POMEROY. She taught for 21 years in the Vicksburg and Lawton school systems. For the past 40 years she has been a member of the DAR, life member of the Lotus Lily United #262 Order of the Eastern Star, played the organ and was a member of the Eastern Star, played the organ and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Schoolcraft for 50 years, Schoolcraft Ladies Library and HIstorical Society, Accompanist for the Portage Senior Center, and for the past 20 years she was a member of the Portage United Church of Christ. Ruth's passion was her famil! y and playing the piano. She has played for many weddings and funerals. Ruth is survived by her three children, Judy and her husband, Donald LINDERS of Vicksburg, David POMEROY of Washington, Robert and his wife, Mary POMEROY of New Hampshire; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Marian and her husband William LOVE, of East Lansing, Betty and her husband, Robert PRESTON of Arizona; one brother, William and his wife Nell ROOT of Grand Rapids; sister-in-law, Margie ROOT of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Lois and Mike Farrand, of Portage; and many dear friends. She was preceded by her husband Norman in 1970; brother, Jack ROOT, sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Hugh ALLEY, daughter-in-law, Dora POMEROY; and aunt, Dorothy HANNA. Ruth's celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Schoolcraft on Monday, January 12 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Paula Vanderhoven offi! ciating. Burial will be held privately at the Harrison Cemetery.
