He was born July 22, 1906 in Richland Township, the son of Roy and Minnie (SONNEVILLE) REED. He founded the Parkview Inn in Richland in 1929. He owned and operated, with this wife, Marjorie, the Reed Nursing Homes in Richland and Kalamazoo from 1949-1969. He was also a school bus driver for Richland, and his father, Roy was the founder of the Reed Garage in Richland in the late 1920s. He was also a Richland volunteer fireman with his father, Roy. He belonged to the Kalamazoo Gun Club, and enjoyed trap shooting and skeet. He bird hunted in upper and lower Michigan, especially around the Kalkaska area, and hunted moose in Canada, and on one trip was particularly proud of killing 3 moose with 5 shots! He was a member of the Kalamazoo Moose Lodge and Kalamazoo Valley Outboard Club in the 50s and 60s. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former B! eulah CUNNINGHAM; and his parents. Surviving are 2 daughters, Betty Jane MONROE of Kalamazoo, and Bonny Lynn HARBACK of Jacksonville, FL, and Italy; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place at his request. Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Memorial Service to be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
