I would suggest that you call Mr. Pat Neal, at the Court and make an appointment. First try 269.384.8178, if that does not work, call 269.383.8666. She will have to make the request in person. Author: denorton Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.kalamazoo/26960.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thanks for this information. It gives me more avenues to follow to piece this genealogy together. And Yes, we did know that her name before adoption was Donna Fae. After she was adopted by the McDowells she was named Dora Louise. Many years ago we found her original birth certificate showing that name along with the names of her birth parents. We have been trying to specifically identify Beatrice DeKam and have been pretty sure we know the genealogical links there, but were never able to absolutely prove it. We have not found anything about Donald Meyers, the father. I had also previously found the Bergeron obit and have been pretty sure that is the same person and have traced the DeKam family back a number of generations - I just need to prove out that specific connection. I'm curious to know where you found or how you knew her birth name was Donna Fae? Knowing that might help prove the links. I have been doing genealogy for 45 years and am a stickler for sourcing! and proving out links before accepting them. Any further information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for what you have provided so far. Dennis Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You have it included in the Ancestry record for Lottie. Beatrice died just prior to 25 Jan 1973 in Bradenton, Fla. Her death is in Rootsweb and indicates there is not an obit. But the Kala. Pub. Library page shows an obit which is available at this site https://www.kpl.gov/genealogy/obituary-requests/ You should provide this citation KG 01/27/1973 B,006:4 NEWS and they will send you a copy of the obit, unless of course, you are near Kalamazoo and you can just stroll in and get a copy from the microfilm. Just an aside, and you may already know this, I have reason to believe your mother-in-law's name may have been Donna Fae. She had a baby girl she gave up for adoption in 1924. The father of the baby girl was Donald J. Meyers and nothing further is known about him. Beatrice and Donald were apparantly not married and never married. There was a John Dekam with wife Lottie and daughter Beatrice in the 1920 and 1910 Census for Kalamazoo City and I assume this is the same Beatrice, but not absolutely sure. Any help with any of these people would be extremely helpful. I have found a couple of Doonald Meyers/Myers in the area at that time, but have not been able to connect any of them. The baby girl born was my wife's mother who was adopted by Donald McDowell and grew up in Parchment. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Her children, Gus (Mary) Grintals, Mara (James) Burkett; and grandchildren, Lisa Martin, Max Burkett, and Gabe Burkett will deeply miss their mother and grandmother. In 1977 Anna was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Janis Grintals and in 1978; her sister-in-law, Alma Grintals. She was also preceded in death, by her daughter, Anita Martin in 1999. Anna was born Anastasija Jodo in rural Poland and left home as a young girl to seek employment in Latvia. It was there that she met her future husband, Janis Grintals. Janis and Anastasija fled Latvia together in 1944 and were married soon after. They spent their first six year together in displaced persons' camps in Germany and finally secured passage to the USA in 1950. Anna's involvement in the Kalamazoo Latvian community centered around her close friends and membership in the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church where her skills as a baker of Latvian pastries were legendary. Anastasija, known by h! er grandchildren as "Vija" always loved working in her garden and cooking family dinners. It is an understatement to say that Vija devoted her later life to the care and feeding of her roses and her grandchildren.
