She was born to Gertrude and Sam Carr on October 6, 1917. Ann married Wilbur T. Collins on August 26, 1934 in LaGrange, Indiana. She was a resident of Kalamazoo for most of her life and retired from the Brown Company after 25 years of service. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur and her sister, Emma. She is survived by her two brothers, Jim and Leo Carr; her sons, Bruce and Thom Collins; granddaughters, Sue Block, Chris Collins, Sandy Wolf, Tani Kremble and Cindy Jenkins; a grandson, David Collins; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A private ceremony and celebration of Ann's life will be announced at a later date. Her greatest love was for her family who will miss her warmth, advice and understanding. He was born on August 4, 1946 in Garden City, MI to Gloria and Raymond Mansfield who preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Susan; son, Dean and daughter, Lori Southern; brothers, Roger, Raymond, Guy and sister, Sharon. Deane had a thirst for knowledge and a love of travel. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Consolation shortly after graduating from high school. He graduated from Nazareth College in 1980. He taught Middle School Language Arts in Miami, FL for several years. Deane and Susan adventured to El Salvador where he taught for a year. Their travels took them throughout Europe. They retired to Montana where Deane became a Ranger for the Glacier National Park in the summer, where he found his true calling. His ashes will be spread over the park he loved. Of Kalamazoo Passed away Tuesday morning, August 31, 2010. Stanley was born October 14, 1922 in Gary, IN the third son of Alex and Anna Petkus. After graduation from Froebel High School, he worked as a draftsman for U.S. Steel before he entered the Navy in 1942 to serve in World War II. He was an optical articefer specialist on the U.S.S. Hector in the South Pacific. He was married to Barbara (Barnett) Petkus in 1945. After the war was over, he entered pharmacy school at Ferris Institute that is now Ferris State University. Upon graduation and becoming a registered pharmacist he has lived in Kalamazoo since 1951. He was manager and registered pharmacist at the old Walgreen Drug Store on the corner of South and Burdick streets. After Walgreens moved up the street on the mall in 1962 he remained as a registered pharmacist until 1969. He also practiced pharmacy at the Suburban Drug Store on East Main and also in Parchment. Later he worked at Osco Drugs on South Westnedge and the Turnstyle S! tore at Maple Hill Mall. His final working years was at Zande's Apothecary in Battle Creek and South Haven Rexall Drugs. His hobbies and interest were varied. He was involved with Ham Radio, small engine repair, welding and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Alex Petkus in Cheboygan, MI, formerly of Bloomington Hills, and Walter Petkus in Williamsburg, VA. He was also preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 1996. His survivors include one sister-in-law in Williamsburg, VA; half brother, Donald Petkus in Bloomington, IN; several nieces and nephews; as well as Stanley M. Petkus, Jr., now a lonesome and broken hearted son. Friends may meet the family Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 10:30 in the Mausoleum at Mt. After a few years of medical decline, Ken succumbed to a short illness. He was lovingly cared for by caregivers at Kairos Dwelling. He passed peacefully to join his Savior, family and many friends gone before. Ken was the second of three sons born to William and Anne Zigterman. He was born, raised and schooled in and around Highland, IN. Ken served his country as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War. Ken was skilled in many aspects of the building trades. He also worked for several companies running and maintaining machines. He was a hard and faithful worker and his fellow friends at work enjoyed and appreciated him and his sense of humor. Ken was a member of Covenant United Reformed Church, and wherever he lived, he faith-fully attended services. He served the churches as an elder, deacon, clerk, Sunday school teacher and friend. He welcomed visitors warmly and was a man who was neither unduly proud nor vain. He! tried to live by admonitions of Proverbs, especially Prov. 22:1: "A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches. Loving favor rather than silver or gold." Ken met his wife, Judy in 1952. They were married in 1955 and were blessed with 55 years together. Ken leaves to mourn his absence, his wife, Judy; sons, Mark (JoAnn) and Brian (Lori); grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jessica), Jamie (Kevin) Kari and Kaitlynn; great grandchildren, Rylee and Max. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; two step-fathers; a brother, Wallace; a son, Steven; and a grandson, Steven Mark. Missing him will be a sister-in-law, Margaret; his brother, Ron (Chris); sisters-in-law, Betty Jonker and Jackie (Glenn) De Jong; many nieces, nephews and friends will remember him. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM in the Covenant United Reformed Church, 3724 Lovers Lane, with Rev. Arthur Bestemen, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage C! hapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Pansy graduated from Ferris Institute (State) and worked in the Kalamazoo Prosecutor's office, a dental office and was an election official in Parchment for many years. Pansy enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing bingo. She loved her great care givers from Custom Carelink, friends at Wyndam and long time friend Maria Zuniga. Pansy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack and her brother, Ford W. Martin. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Carol Bowers of Parchment. Private burial has taken place. The only child of William and Jessie Bligh, she was born January 7, 1914, in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended Oberlin College where, in her sophomore year, she met and fell in love with Paul Cooper, a freshman from Kalamazoo. After graduating in 1936 with Theater and English majors, she was employed as a manager for Bell Telephone Company in Cleveland. The Coopers were married June 3, 1939 in Gates Mills, Ohio. Last year they celebrated their 70th anniversary in Naples. During World War II, Edie cared for their three small children in Cleveland while Paul served in the Army as Vice-chief of Surgery in England and later Germany. In 1947, the Coopers moved to Kalamazoo where two more children were born. While her family was the center of her life, Edie was active in the community: board member of the YWCA and Visiting Nurses, Vice-President of Service Club (now Junior League), President of Service Club Hon! oraries, President of the Medical Auxiliary and member of Second Reformed Church. Edie enjoyed reading, playing golf, collecting antiques and traveling the world with Paul. In retirement, Paul and Edie moved to Naples, Florida. As members of the Moorings Presbyterian Church, they twice took their children and spouses to Israel. In 1993, they moved to the Glenview Retirement Community where Edie served as activities chairman for seven years. Each December, she wrote and directed a Christmas play for the residents. She was a portrait painter, her favorite subjects being her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edie Cooper was the vibrant heart of the extended Cooper clan. For her five children and fourteen grandchildren, she was a sensitive listener, caring counsel and quiet inspiration. She welcomed the in-laws and was overjoyed with the birth of each new baby. For 96 years, she lived life abundantly, sharing her warmth, wisdom and wit. She was preceded in death by her hus! band, Dr. Paul Cooper. She leaves her five children and their spouses, Bert (Terri) Cooper of Kalamazoo, Christine (John) Oosterbaan of Kalamazoo, Dr. Thomas (Sue) Cooper of Everett, Washington, John (Karen) Cooper of Hickory Corners, and Jane (Jim) Greenebaum of Katonah, New York; 14 adored grandchildren, John Paul (Joan) Oosterbaan, Anna (George) Mixon, Dr. Jeffrey (Sara) Cooper, Kristen (Mike) Haines, Katy (Steve) Verduzco, Amy (Mark) McCarthy, David (Lindsay) Oosterbaan, Ryan (Stacey) Cooper, Beth (Ben) Simon, Maggie (D.J.) Gene was born September 12, 1923 in West Frankfort, IL. He served in the US Army in WWII, was a POW in Germany for 3 months, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired in 1984 from Kalamazoo Regional Psychiatric Hospital. Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Rice, and his wife, Mary Rice, in 2002, and several step-brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Michael) Van Atter of Martin, MI, grandchildren Randy Van Atter of Allegan, James (Brandi) Van Atter of Otsego, MI, great-grandchildren Katelyn and Kaylee Van Atter, a sister, Madeline Ross of West Frankfort, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Shelia was born September 12, 1946 in Leeds, AL the daughter of David and Vivian (Scott) Byers. Preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Jan. Shelia retired from Stryker Instrutement in Jan of 2010. Survived by her husband, Ron Ashley; brothers, David (Rodi) Byers of Cleveland, TX, Roger (Jane) Byers, Mike (Linda) Byers, Ron (Karen) Byers all of Kalamazoo, Judy (Danny) Minick of Houston, TX; children, Kathy (Jeff) Douglas of Richland, Kevin Parker of Baton Rouge, LA Shawn (Julie) Lairmore of Tarkington, TX; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren. At her request cremation has taken place. A service will be held at a later date. She was born to Irene and Richard Bruce Morgart in Bedford, Pennsylvania on February 18, 1934. On December 23, 1954, Cathy married Gerald Bradley in Cumberland, Maryland. They moved to Kalamazoo in 1957. She was employed by the Kalamazoo State Hospital for 20 years before retiring. Cathy was preceded in death by her two brothers, Raymond and Paul; and two daughters, Debra Mason and Teresa Bright. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gerald; three sisters, Janet Crownover, Martha Mock, and Helen Wigfield; a brother, Clair; a son, Larry; a grandson, Brian Mason; granddaughter, Brenda Bright; and two great grandsons. A private ceremony and celebration of Cathy's life was held yesterday. For her greatest love was for her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and gardening at her cottage in Allegan County.
