TUCKEY - Of Portage, We lost our husband, father, and friend on Sunday, November 2, 1997, after injury and illness. Born August 10, 1937 in Portage to Charles J. and Margaret M. (BARNES) TUCKEY. Al was raised in the Long Lake area, and was a lifelong Portage resident, except for a short sojourn in Las Vegas. He started worked at an early age, spending 8 years in machine shops and tool and die, then going on to his real love, spending the 18 years with the local Sheriffs Dept. as a deputy, Sergeant, and Chief Deputy. Following his career in law enforcement, he started a motorcycle sales and repair shop, ending with two complete Kawaski [sic] dealerships. The past five years were spent in sales, and he was currently employed at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park as a Family Service Counselor. Al was a member of Masonic Lodge #340 in Portage, and other interests included R.V. traveling and computers, as well as being a fan of TV boxing and racing. We'll most remember h! is sense of humor, his commitment to his family, and his loyalty and affection for life-long friends. He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife, Marlene; and three children, Deborah L. and husband, Joseph GRIER of Grand Rapids, Charles J. TUCKEY and Chris A. TUCKEY, both of Kalamazoo. In addition, he has two grandsons, Troy TUCKEY and little Albert Joseph TUCKEY. He also leaves three step-grandchildren and their families; and a sister, Charlyn HORNE of Mattawan, along with many special friends. Although we will miss him sorely, we are comforted to know that he achieved most of his dreams and had few regrets. She had been employed for 15 years with the Allied Paper Corp. She had worked in 4-H, and as a member of the Country Homemakers Extension, Climax-Scotts Group. She and her husband monitored Channel 9 on the CB, and she used the handle of the "Rolling Pin" on Channel 4. Ruth was an active bowler. On June 12, 1943, she was united in marriage to Emery D. TYLER, who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons and their spouses, Richard D. and Karen, Kenneth L. and Arlene; 6 grandchildren, Sara, Emily, Crystal, Kevin, Tabitha, and Heather; 1 sister, Jo-Anne MCGLOCKLIN of Climax; several nieces and nephews. Bob was born January 14, 1942 in Royal Oak, MI, the son of Elmer and Marguerite (Proper) Tenney. Bob graduated from Ferris State University in 1965 with a degree in accounting. He was honored to receive an Honorary Doctorate of Public Service in 1997 from his alumni school. Bob lived in California for over 40 years. He retired in 1996 as the CEO of Fremont Financial. Bob returned to Michigan in 2004 and found the perfect home for himself and his beloved dog, Isabella here in Kalamazoo. Bob's family members include his brother, John (Nancy) Tenney; niece, Meri; nephew, John E.L. Tenney; sister, Shirley Hoeflinger Carrizo (Carlos); niece, Laura Waldbaum; nephews, Chris, Matthew, Keith and Tim, all from California. Bob had a life filled with a commitment to work gay rights and a strong belief in education. He built and sustained long lasting friendships across the country as he traveled extensively. He will always be remembered fo! r his strong work ethics and commitment to his beliefs of personal freedom. In accordance to Bob's wishes, there will be no visitation and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Virginia was born in Gary, IN, May 29, 1933, the daughter of Robert Buck and Maggie Stewart-Buck. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Walter Townsell; her sister, Alberta Vaughn and second husband, William Nixon. Cherishing her memories are her four children, Curtis, Bernard, Cecil (Shaneika) Townsell and Juanita Haywood, all of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren, Jenea (Yafinceio B. Harris) Haywood, Cecil, Jr., Walter, Ciara, Derrick Townsell, Alexis Caples and Brittany Bell-Paul; several great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her homegoing celebration is scheduled for Monday, January 28th at 11 AM at Galilee Baptist Church, Pastor J. Louis Felton, officiating. She was born November 2, 1932 in Watson, MI the daughter of Harold and Bernice (Keech) Julien and had lived in Kalamazoo for many years. Sherry was a care giver, loved to spend time with her kids and grandkids and loved to play bingo. She is survived by her children, Patricia Fields, Penny Taylor, Clayton, Jr. (Virginia) Buell and Cindy (Carl) Smith all of Kalamazoo; many grand and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 1:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Interment will follow in Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 11:00 AM.
