During his last days, he was surrounded by his beloved family. David was a radio broadcaster, best known for having brought the Doo Dah Parade to Kalamazoo and for being the Doc Holiday component of the Holiday and King radio show. He will be remembered as an avid golfer and Detroit Tigers' fan, a sports enthusiast in general, a kind, intelligent, witty, and loving husband and father, a lover of music, literature, the theater, his friends, as well as an expert on rock & roll, the Civil War, the Old West, baseball, national, international and geopolitics. David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judith; his children, Patricia, of Houston, Texas; Amy Anderson (Blaine) of Byron Center, Michigan; Timothy (Rachael) of New Orleans, Louisiana; a granddaughter, Ashley Anderson; cousins James Meacham of Lincolnshire, England and Robert Cornwell, of Lansing, Michigan; a br! other-in-law, Robert Rose, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two nephews, a great-niece and a great-nephew; special friends of over forty years' duration Robert Salmon of Modesto, California, Timothy Shank, of Augusta, Michigan, Leo Swiat, of Vicksburg, Michigan and David Warner of Hickory Corners, Michigan. He will be missed and remembered with affection and kindness by all who knew him well. Cremation and a private family service have taken place. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of his life and was employed with Auto Owners Insurance Company for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Lake Center Bible Church; Family Alter Chapel in Battle Creek; Schoolcraft Methodist Men's Bible Study; Schoolcraft Lions Club; Kalamazoo Diving Club; and the Masons. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Paul; former wife, Kathleen Spencer in 1994; and his step mother, Greta Harris. On May 28, 2004, he was united in marriage to Deborah M. (Kreider) Spencer who survives. Also surviving, six children, Lisa Spencer and Eric Spencer both of Kalamazoo, Kori Spencer of Vicksburg, Kylee Spencer of Kalamazoo, Thomas Mendham of Portage, and Brett Cooper of Florida; three grandchildren, Aubree, Britnee, and Philip; two sisters, Connie Wissink of Kalamazoo and Becky Kl! unker if Wisconsin; a brother, Dennis (Teresa) Spencer of Battle Creek; his step father, Robert Harris of Battle Creek; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Age 93 Formerly of Vicksburg, MI Ken passed away February 7, 2008 in Huntsville, Alabama. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan on June 29, 1914. On September 27, 1935, he married Adeline Mae Browne who preceded him in death in 1997. He graduated from Alama College, Alma, Michigan in June 1939. He began his career as teacher and coach in Harbor Springs, MI at a starting salary of $1,400 per year. He went on to become a teacher, coach, athletic director and assistant principal for Allegan High School from 1943 to 1956. He retired as Superintendent of Schools from Vicksburg in 1975 and moved to Pharr, Texas. He married Shirley Alice May Gerould on August 14, 1998 who preceded him in death in 2004. In 2005, he moved to Huntsville, Alabama and maintained independent living with the loving support of his son, Mac. Ken is survived by his son Malcolm Dean Otis of Huntsville, Alabama; Julie Lee Mayer of Centerview, Missouri; and Beth Ann Yerrick of Otsego, Michigan. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and 18 great! grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held on February 11, 2008 at Somerby at Jones Farm, Huntsville, Alabama which had been Ken's place of residence. Kalamazoo Mr. Holaday passed away early Thursday morning, Feb. 14, 2008 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Clayton was known for his kindness and integrity; he was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He was born July 20, 1918 in Grand Ledge, MI; the youngest of three children to the late Robert and Effie May (Hooks) Holaday. Clayton was employed by Western Michigan University as an English Professor for 24 years, until his retirement in 1980. On July 8, 1944, he was married to Eileen Walsh in Youngstown, OH, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Michael (Beverly) Holaday of Grand Rapids, Susan (John) Darovec of Bradenton, FL, Margaret (Tim) Franklin of Kalamazoo, and Kate Holaday of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren, Andrew (Rebecca Lindsey) Holaday of Lansing, Elizabeth (Nathan Riggle) Holaday of Tucson, AZ, and Abby Franklin of Kalamazoo; and four great-grandchildren, Nitya and Narayan Taber, and Meredith and Simon Riggle.
