Kalamazoo Nick passed away peacefully on February 28, 2008, with his family at his side. Nick looked forward to meeting his heavenly Father, and being reunited with his wife of fifty-one years Bonnie (Samis), who preceded him in death in 2006. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Bruce (Deb Johnson) Vicol, Kim (Terry) Nordquist, Terry (Rob) Knapp, Nancy (Scott) Keyes, nineteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Nick was also preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. A Korean War veteran, Nick was awarded the Purple Heart. He was Past Commander of the VFW Post 422 in Delton, and a member of the American Legion Post in Hickory Corners. He loved camping and fishing. His garden, which he was very proud of, was the only garden in miles with no weeds. The family will receive friends, Monday, 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home, in Delton, where funeral services will be conducted, Tuesday, March 4, 2008, 1:00 PM, Pastor Michael Eleveld, officiati! ng. Of Climax Ron passed away Thursday afternoon, February 28, 2008 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born November 12, 1932 in Jackson, the oldest of eight children to Llewelyn and Virginia (Sweet) Smith. Ron graduated from Jackson High School, in 1951. He then moved to Climax to farm with his grandmother and Bob Clifford. In 1964, he went to work for Clark Equipment Co. for 27 years. He then went to work for Battle Creek Health Systems in 1987, until his retirement in 1998. On November 29, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Barton in Climax, who survives. Also surviving are their four children, Robins (Kim) Smith of Scotts, Ellen Smith of Portage, Cindy Thrasher of Portage and Scott (Tracy) Smith of Climax; seven grandchildren, Rachel, Bryan, Bradley, Eric, Kyle, Justin and Megan; one brother, Gerald Smith; five sisters, Gloria (Paul) Johansson, Darlene Worham, Carolyn (Robert) Moon, Sandy (Al) Braybrooke and Dianne Stevens; one brother-in-law, William (Carol) Barton; three ! sisters-in-law, RoseAnn (Marvin) Triestram, Louise Hulien and Joyce (Harold) Dishon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Ruby Ann Smith and one sister, Margaret Ann Smith (as an infant). He was born November 8, 1922 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Peter and Lena (Heystek) Clapp. Henry was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He was employed by Miller-Davis Construction Co. in Kalamazoo for 38 years, until his retirement and was a member of Westwood United Methodist Church. On February 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to JoAnne Johnson in Kalamazoo, who survives. Also surviving are their two daughters, Susan and Judith Clapp, both of Grand Rapids; one sister, Connie Bair of Battle Creek and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents and three brothers, John, Martin and Herbert Clapp. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Carlton was born November 9, 1920 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the son of Carl and Esther (Eulrich) Bradley and has been a Kalamazoo resident since 1940. During WW II, he served from 1939-1944 in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. For over 25 years, he was employed with Radio Corporation of American as a T.V. Technician. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church for over 50 years. On September 20, 1942, he was united in marriage to the former, Ardith L. Ames, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Douglas (Karen) Bradley of New Mexico and Larry Bradley of Kalamazoo; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Bradley; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Carlton was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William Bradley in 2004 and by two brothers, Roger and Leland Bradley. During the Korean Conflict he was a member of the 5th Army Band. Music was his life and serving the arts community was his joy. He was the past president of Kalamazoo Community Concerts Association, a board member of the Kalamazoo Ballet Company and the Battle Creek Boy Choir and a founding member of The Milwood Church Fine Arts Program. He served on many other boards and committees throughout the area. He was an active member of the Milwood United Methodist Church for the past 50 years. Vern is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara (Brown) Benedict, children, Kristine (Mark) Snyder, Karrie (Gregory Walz) Benedict, Eric (Laura) Benedict, and by his sister, Alyce (I! rving) Prescott, 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was born April 15, 1921 in Kokomo, IN, the son of Clyde O. and Eva (Bland) Creager and had lived in Kalamazoo for many years. Dr. Creager graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Medicine and from the IU School of Medicine in 1944. He served his country during WW II in the United States Army at Percy Jones General Hospital, with the rank of Captain. Following his military service, he started private practice in Kalamazoo in psychiatry, becoming full time at the Child Guidance Clinic in 1948. He became the Director of the Clinic in 1950 and retired in 1981. After retirement, he remained at the Clinic on a part-time basis. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald in 2000 and a great granddaughter, Madeleine Wike. On April 25, 1943, he married the former Helen Nelson, who survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Christina (Richard) Fink of Kalamazoo; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Creager of Kalamazoo; grandchildre! n, Ronald R. Creager, II, Karylle (Brad) Wike, Marnie Creager, Megan Fink and Zachary Fink; great- grandchildren, Matthew Wike, Andrew Wike, Anderson Creager and Austin Creager; a sister, Marjorie (Gene) Sumney of Birmingham, MI; nieces and nephews. Private family services will be held and there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Free Medical Clinic of Kalamazoo, 2918 Portage Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49001 or the charity of one's choice. Josephine was born November 13, 1922 in Watervliet, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Naomi Schied and had lived in the Kalamazoo area for most of her life. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed caring for her two grandchildren and working in her flower garden. She and her husband, Donald, enjoyed traveling after their retirement. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Thomas and a sister, Wanda Pomeroy. Surviving are her husband of over 60 years, Donald E. Waldron, to whom she was married on March 16, 1946. Also surviving are a son, William E. Waldron and his wife, Starr of Kalamazoo; two grandchildren, Nicholas E. Waldron and Colby D. Waldron; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1:00 o'clock Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with the Rev. James Dyke, officiating. Interment i! n Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family on Sunday from 2-4 PM at the funeral home. She was born July 19, 1945 in Marks, Mississippi, the middle child of eleven to William and Johnnie (White) Davis. Mary enjoyed painting, crocheting and doing puzzles. Her favorite holiday, which she celebrated year round, was Christmas. Mary was a loving, caring and giving wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all and the memories that she created in our hearts will live on forever. She is survived by her loving husband, Stan Root, Sr; four children, Stan Root, Jr., Rhonda Root, Tammy Klaiber and Charmin "Charlie" (Robert) Deskins; four grandchildren, Alexis Klaiber, Dannie Root, Austin Root and Melissa Klaiber; her mother, Johnnie Davis; five brothers; five sisters and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mary will be 11:00 AM on Monday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 E. Maple Street, with Pastor Donald Barnes, officiating. Robert was born November 8, 1921 in Portland Oregon, the son of Stafford L. and Nellie S. (Whitehead) Osborne. Robert was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Parchment. As a member of the American Legion, Robert often volunteered at Bingo games in Allegan. He was also an avid runner and enjoyed traveling. Robert is preceded in death by a sister, Muriel McIntire. Robert is survived by his wife, Shirley (Katead), whom he married in April of 1990; also by sons, Geoffrey, Robert and Michael Osborne; daughters, Barbara McDonell, Donna Mehring, JoAnn Malloy and Sandy Osborne, a sister, Winifred Kamm; several step-children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 2, 2008 from 6-8 PM at PARCHMENT-REDMOND Funeral Home 2300 East "G" Ave-349-7735 where a Rosary will be recited at 6 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Fr. James O'Leary, celebrant. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
