She was born March 30, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of the late DeGarmo and Evelyn (Lay) Hickmott. Susan served her country in the United States Navy, The Waves, during World War II. Susan attended State High School, Kalamazoo, MI. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Western State Teachers College. The predecessor of Western Michigan University, her Master's Degree from Ohio State and her PhD from Columbia University, NYC. For almost 30 years, Susan taught Pre-Kindergarten at Bugbee School, Oneonta, NY. She was also a professor at State University College at Oneonta, retiring in 1979. Susan was a member of the Chenango Valley Doll Club and the First Presbyterian Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Susan is survived by her brother, Thomas W. Hickmott of Niskayuna, NY; as well a several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. At Susan's request, there will be no calling! hours or funeral services. She was born in Lafayette, Indiana on March 31, 1925, the daughter of James Lee and Anna May (Leighty) Dawson. Mrs. Cressy has been a long time resident of this area. She was employed as a secretary for J.L. Hudson Company for over 15 years. Anna loved to sew, play the organ, dance and especially loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cressy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Douglas Cressy, in 2002. She is survived by her loving family, daughter, Pamela (Brian) Jobin of Vicksburg, MI; two grandchildren, Lisa (David) Jobin-Sink of Vicksburg and Matthew (Kimberly) Jobin of Grand Rapids; four great-grandchildren, Justin and Ryan Sink and Malachi and Issac Jobin; one sister-in-law, Katherine Hicks of Cincinnati, OH; one brother-in-law, Bernard Cressy of Las Vegas, NV. Cremation has taken place. A graveside memorial service will be held in Richardson Cemetery at a lat! er date this spring. Memorials may be donated to Hospice of Southwest Michigan. Today at my web site I added histories for the Townships of Alamo and Wakeshma in Kalamazoo County, Mi. Also started today was the Kalamazoo County Biographical Sketches. Only a few are online now but more will be added as well as more for other Counties in SouthWest Michigan. All files that I have online for Michigan can be located with this link. http://history.rays-place.com/mi/index.htm There are also some histories and biographical sketches there for Allegan, Barry, Berrien and Van Buren Counties. In all these counties I have seen many people who came from New York. If your family came from there I have over 600 histories and 3000 biographies for New York online at: http://history.rays-place.com/ny/index.htm Adding information for Michigan is a slow process, but I should have most of the townships in the SouthWest part online someday.
