He was born December 5, 1949 in Kalamazoo. Luke was a Vietnam veteran. He was employed by Georgia Pacific for 33 years until his retirement, and was a member of Lighthouse Community Church. On August 16, 1980, he was united in marriage to Louann Molby in Kalamazoo, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Luke Ormanovich Jr. of Comstock, Nanette (Scott) Hatfield of Comstock, Brian (Sharon) Ormanovich of Comstock, and Amanda Ormanovich of Kalamazoo; 12 grandchildren; his mother, Doris Ormanovich of Kalamazoo; two brothers and two sisters, Chuck (Sandy) Ormanovich of Kalamazoo, Doris Carl of Portage, David (Sherry) Bresson of White Pigeon, and Carla (John) Rhoda of Schoolcraft; his birth father, Franz Bresson of Schoolcraft; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding him in death was his father, Louis Ormanovich. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Tuesday at Langeland Family! Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway, with Rev. Danny Janes and Rev. Bruce Howell officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Monday (tomorrow) at the funeral home. Kalamazoo Absent from the body and present with his dear Lord Jesus, Leonard Mejeur passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008. He was born December 19, 1915 in Kalamazoo, the son of Harm and Magdaline (Kannegieter) Mejeur, had lived in Kalamazoo for 92 years and was employed by Allen Test Products for 40 years, before retiring in 1980. He was a member of Kalamazoo Bible Church where he taught junior high boys Sunday School for over 20 years and served on the board as a treasurer for the church. Leonard also served on the board of Child Evangelism Fellowship and on the board of Calvary Bible Church, where he was currently a member. For many years he provided Sunday afternoon services for the residents of several local nursing homes. In his spare time, Leonard enjoyed gardening and reading. On May 28, 1941, he married the former Elsie Wolthuis, and together they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in May of 2007. Also surviving are their children, Carol (James) Carpenter of Aurora, IL! , Sharon Mejeur of Fort Wayne, IN and Linda (David) Elwell of Mattawan; four grandchildren, Stephen (Melinda) Carpenter, Deborah (Joshua) Volkening, Emily (Ivan) Birochak and Paul (Heather) Elwell; four great grandchildren, Annmarie, Kaitlin, Ethan and Eli Volkening; brothers, James Mejeur of Kalamazoo and Willard (Gloria) Mejeur of Ocean Springs, MS; sister-in-law, Alida Mejeur; nieces and nephews. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Catherine Mc Glennon; brothers, Hubert Mejeur, Ben Mejeur, Jerry Mejeur and Harold Mejeur. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Calvary Bible Church, 855 S. Drake Rd. with Rev. Gerald Longjohn officiating. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. With tearful eyes we watched her and saw her pass away; although we loved her dearly, we could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. Sharon died Thursday morning March 13, 2008. She was born November 5, 1944 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a daughter of Myrle and Zelda (Upson) Slater. She had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the Upjohn-Pfizer Company for 25 years before retiring. She was preceded in death by her father, Myrle. On January 31, 1964, she was united in marriage to John R. Kramer who survives. Also surviving, two sons, Marc (Kellie) Kramer and Kevin (Gwyneth) Kramer all of Three Rivers; five grandchildren; Her mother, Zelda Coleman of Portage; a sister, Dolores (Howard) Wilcox of Texas Corners; two nieces; and several cousins. A memorial service will be held at 1 o'clock Thursday at Calvary Reformed Church, 7829 S. 5th Street. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Private inurnment will be in Hope Cemetery at a later date. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and attended Parsons Business School. Married to Fred T. Wilson in 1936, who passed away in 1954. They had three children, Jack (Lenore) Wilson, Jill (Dean) Dudley and Leslie (Duncan) Connor. She had two sisters, Betty Parr, deceased and Beverly Kemple of Grand Rapids. She re-married in 1959 to Ray C. Lyons, whose children were Karen (Peter) Baker and Mike (Connie) Lyons. She is survived by 11 grandchildren and 14-great grandchildren. Virginia was a member of the Bronson Guild, Coffee Cart and Meals on Wheels. She worked at Upjohn, WMU and Barber's Clothing Store. The family will receive family and friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service on Tuesday, March 18th at 2:00 PM at Milwood United Methodist Church, 3! 919 Portage Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49001. They are labeled as follows: 1. Grace (Boersma) and John Vogel, Grandpa Boersma's sister. 2.Aunt Grace, Grandpa Boersma's sister. (This is a much later photo) 3. Pete and Lizzie Boersma, Pete was Grandpa Boersma's oldest brother. He had a dairy in Kalamazoo. The photos of the two couples could be wedding photos as they look quite young. Records on the internet show that Peter H. Boersma married Elizabeth Maria Shepherd 6 March 1901 in Kalamazoo. Believe they had children Paul M., Crystal & Carl S. There photos are labeled with a Kalamazoo photographer. I paid a dollar each for them in an antique store in California. Thought there might be someone who would like to have them. Dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather died March 13th, 2008, after a courageous battle with leukemia at The Villages, Florida. Thomas C. Holdridge was born September, 17th, 1932, the son of Maurice and Gladys Holdridge. He met the Love of His Life, Betty J. Magner at a YMCA dance. They married June 14th, 1952. Tom worked at National Waterlift for 16 years. He then became an independent contractor until his retirement. He enjoyed playing golf, cards, gardening, working in his yard, summer days in South Haven, fall days in their Kalamzoo home and winters in their Florida home. Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Betty J. Holdridge; four daughters, Julianne Holdridge, Cindy Boulter (Jimmy), Tammy VanDyk (Jim), and LuAn Wormet (Art); ten grandchildren, Jenny (Mike), Stacey (Craig), Shanon, Tommy, Ryan, Niki (Jaime), Lindsey, Kimi, Betsy, and Aley; his eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Patricia Locey (Jim), brother, David Holdri! dge (Nell), and sister, Janice Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Gladys Holdridge; his beloved brother, Douglas Holdridge, and brother-in-law, Ernest Force. Tom will always be remembered for his love of life, and his deep love for his family and friends. Tom never complained and fought a hard, valiant battle for the past 2 .5 years. We wish him eternal peace. He was the son of Joseph and Lillian Helman and was born in New York City on August 20, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents and a special mother-in-law, Lillian Bielang. Bobby graduated from Western Military Academy in Alton, Illinois, attended Oakland Community College in Farmington Hills, Michigan and University of Detroit in Detroit, Michigan. He began his career at The Upjohn Company and was employed there for 17 years prior to starting his own business, Paintwell Designs. Bobby had a passion for playing in his workshop (affectionately known as "The Taj Garage"). He was able to enjoy his hobbies of art and model railroading and doing whatever it was that Bobby did in "Bobby's World". He also enjoyed collecting and driving his antique cars, fishing with his friends of 30 years, ! Captain Snoid (Billy), Captain Trout (Rob) and Captain (Jim)- (Bobby was Captain Pike). He also immensely enjoyed nature, gardening and traveling. Bobby was known for his patience, gentle soul, creativity, sense of humor, wit and his big heart. His most recent joy was the birth of his grandson, Austin. While battling cancer his constant friends and caregivers, Merwin and Kristy Wittum, were at his side. Bobby is survived by his wife, Diane, to whom he was married on April 8, 1983; his son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Kelly Helman; grandson, Austin Helman, Denver, Colorado and Aaron's mother, Jan Alexander, Pine Island, Florida; sister and brother-in-law, Candy and Gary Frenkel, Waterford, Michigan; sister and brother-in-law, Penny and Stuart Avig, Farmington Hills, Michigan; brother-in-law, Mark Bielang and his wife, Pam, Paw Paw, Michigan and sister-in-law, Eva Ticknor and her husband, Verne, South Haven, Michigan; nieces, Andrea and Becky Bielang, Stephanie Ticknor and ! Joanna Acosta; nephews, Adam Bielang, Darren and Scott Avig, and Brad Gutov; great- nieces, Ariel and Kelsey Acosta; also many cousins, special friends and extended family by whom he will be greatly missed. Carl was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on July 2, 1921, the son of Jules & Mary (Locoque) Engels. He married Doris Hetherington on July 17, 1943. He received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh and a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan. Carl was a teacher at Wyoming Park and Kalamazoo High Schools, the Technical College in Ibadan, Nigeria and Western Michigan University. He retired from Western Michigan University, in 1985. Carl coached numerous high school sports including football, basketball, track and tennis at both Wyoming Park and Kalamazoo High Schools. His tennis teams won eight state championships in three different classes. He was inducted into the Wyoming Park High School Hall of Fame and the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame. Carl enjoyed sailing and won 10 Lightning Fleet championships at Gull Lake. He also started the Sailing C! lub at Western Michigan University. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 63 years. Surviving are his four children, Bob (Martha) Engels of Kalamazoo, Jack (Kitty) Engels of Ft. Meyers, FL, Jill (Chuck) Engels-VanEck and Jim (Jayne) Engels of Portage; eight grandchildren, Nate & Rob Engels, Jim & Dan Brayton, Sarah & Matt VanEck and Jake & Ty Engels; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Laverne Carter and sister-in-law, Jean (Hetherington) Gettleman. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. She loved her family, especially her kids and grandkids, following their sporting events and activities. Meredith and her husband, Jim, spent the last 12 winters in Naples, FL where she was active in the Red Hat Society and bowling. On March 22, 1969, she married James Thompson, who survives. Rosie was born August 23, 1941, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Van Eck) Kiewiet. She was a lifelong resident and was a member of the Lake Center Bible Church. Rosie was affiliated with the Center for Developmentally Disabled Adults and she was cared for by Community Living Options. Surviving are her brother, Bill (Melinda) Kiewiet of Portage, nephews and niece; Ryan, Drew, Brett and Hannah Kiewiet, and by her Community Living Options friends and all of her caregivers throughout the years. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. where a Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday with her brother, Rev. Bill Kiewiet officiating. Interment will follow in Portage South Cemetery. Of Kalamazoo Passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008. Tessie was born February 23, 1914 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Anthony and Jennie (DeCarlo) Furgione. They later moved to a small farm in Hammonton, NJ, where she attended school and worked as an operator on Women's and Men's Clothing. She was a Kalamazoo area resident for over 60 years working for Michigan Bell and later Bronson Hospital for 10 years as a ward clerk. Tessie loved working in the garden, also cooking and baking for family and friends. She was a member of the West Oshtemo Baptist Church and was a member of the DAV Auxiliary. On December 6, 1944, she was united in marriage to Joseph R. Pierce, who preceded her in death on December 26, 1993. Also preceding her in death were brothers, James, John and Thomas Furgione. Surviving are her siblings, Joseph Furgione, Lucy Ludlow and Rita Shields; many nieces, nephews, special friends and other relatives. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 PM at the Langeland ! Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street . Dagny was born on May 8, 1912 in Menominee, MI, the daughter of Anton and Margit (Ericksen) Larsen. Dagny was a certified X-Ray Technician having trained at the University of Chicago. She married John J. Meyers, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Clara Bergren and two brothers, William and Edward Larsen. Dagny is survived by her daughter, Jacalyn (David) Todd of Kalamazoo; a granddaughter, Julie Marie Todd; a sister, Agnes Knuth of Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews. The Meyers lived in Trenton, MI, then retired to Punta Gorda, FL where Dagny sang and continued to be active in Women's Club and First United Methodist Church for over 30 years. She was an accomplished cook and seamstress, and enjoyed many art forms including aluminum engraving and sketching. She returned to Michigan in 2004 to be near her family.
