On page 134 it mentions a will of Ephraim Brown b. 1776 d. 1851 Lyons NY, married to Hannah Huddleston. Ephraim is descended from Ephraim>Amos>>William>James>James>John. The will is quite long and I only made notes on parts of it. It mentions a son Thomas Brown b. 1808, of Allegany county MI and later says he died in Galesburg MI 1888, was married to Mary Miles. Also mentions a son Nicholad Brown of Allegany county MI. A daughter Charity S. married to Asahel G. Hopkins, of Kalamazoo county. A son Seba Brown married to Elizabeth Kenyon, they had one child Sarah 1836-1925, married tp Reuben Adams, Sarah died in Kalamazoo. This couple had one child, L. May Adams who wed Geo. Knerr. He was employed with the Burroughs Corporation for 20 years before retiring in 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, Jay Washburn; and a brother, Charles. On June 9, 1973, he was united in marriage to Lois J. (Wesenberg) Winkler who survives. Also surviving, six children, Jerry (Cheri) Whaley of Kalamazoo, Mark Whaley of Three Rivers, Teri (Jeff) Melanson and Connie (Phillip) Chandoit all of Boise, ID, Lisa (Mike) Balk of Battle Creek, and Joseph (Katie Ashbaugh) Winkler of Lansing, MI; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Washburn; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Elder Eugene ("Monty") Treadwell was born February 13, 1950, the son of Grover Cleveland, Sr. and Goldie Imogene Treadwell, in Dayton, OH. Elder Eugene Treadwell graduated in 1968, from Colonel White High School, in Dayton, OH. On Febraury 3, 1969, after graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and served as a Military Police Officer. In 1973, he met his spouse, companion and friend, Cora ("Becky") Johnson in Marion, IN. They were united in Holy Matrimony on September 3, 1983 at Second Baptist Church, by Rev. Dr. M.W. Wright in Kalamazoo, MI. Elder Eugene ("Monty") Treadwell was saved in the Lord in 1977 at Holy Temple COGIC, under the leadership of Supt. Amos Williams. He was reclaimed in 1988 at Lively Stone Apostolic Church of God. There was a calling on his life to minister the Word of God and in 1991 under the Shephard of Pastor Hazel D. Davis of the Seed of Faith Church in Kalamazoo, MI, Elder Treadwell dedicated h! imself to that purpose. In 1993, Elder Treadwell joined Progressive Deliverance Ministries COGIC and was part of the ministerial staff there. He was ordained as a minister on March 27, 1999 and was Assistant Pastor, until he went home to be with the Lord. He was the sole proprietor of H.I.S. (Him I Serve Cleaning Service). Elder Eugene Treadwell ("Monty") was a very personable man with a lively sense of humor. Even throughout his journey, he remained positive and he was a living testimony to those he came in contact with. He will be truly missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Janice Johnson; one sister-in-law, Ernestine Hooks and four brother-in-laws, L.C., Elbert, Nathaniel and Albert Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Cora Treadwell; three daughters, Teresa Hunter, Althea Anderson and Monica (Anthony) Campbell; four sons, James Hunter, Jr., Eugene Cooper, Montio and Kory Treadwell Sr.; several grandchi! ldren and great-grandchildren. Age 88 Died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at his residence in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Born March 26, 1919 in Lorain Ohio, to the late John and Julia Sulpizio, he resided 53 years in Defiance, Ohio. He graduated from Lorain High School and Baldwin Wallace College. Gabe served in the U.S. Army during WW II rising to the rank of Captain. Stationed in the Hawaiian Islands and Japan, he trained in the Transportation Corps, was an instructor in the Jungle Training Center and a Regimental Procurement Officer. Married first in 1941 to Verna Erdy, who preceded him in death, they had one son, John. Married to Martha Arndt in 1951, also preceding Gabe in death, they had four children, Paul (Daria) of Defiance, Ohio, Brett (Linda) of Lambertville, Michigan, Lana (Erik) Brenner of Granger, Indiana and Glenn (Dawn) of Mattawan, Michigan. Also surviving are his sisters, Carmella Truskot and Virginia Milton; brother, Lorenzo and 15 grandchildren. Gabe was preceded in death by siblings, Albert, Palma Repk! o and Rita Kucharik. During the course of his career Gabe worked for Ohio Public Service, Prudential Insurance, United States Steel and General Motors. At GM, Gabe was General Supervisor of Production and retired after 25 years as the Training Coordinator in the Defiance Central Foundry. Mr. Sulpizio was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, charter member of Post 1 of the Italian American Veterans Association in Lorain, Ohio; Post and District Chaplain at the VFW Post 3360 in Defiance, Ohio; and Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge including Knights of Templar and the Shriners in Toledo, Ohio. During his recent residency at Alterra Wynnwood, Gabe made some special friends and care-givers including Teresa Cooley, Alicia Saundors, Meghan Lynch, Morgan Stevenson, and Carrie Jenkins. We would like to thank all the staff of Alterra Wynwood for their friendship, care, and support. Arrangements have been provided by Lawson-Roessner, 1753 South Clinton Street, Defiance, Ohio where vi! sitation is scheduled for Monday, March 24th, 2:00 PM through 8:00 PM and Tuesday from 10:00 AM until services. Lucyle was born August 6, 1926 in Woodstock, Illinois, the daughter and only child of Dr. Edward Miller and Nina (Katzenberg) Sieberg. Her mother passed away soon after Lucyle's birth. She was raised by her dentist father, step-mother, aunt and grandparents. At the age of 16, Lucyle's step-mother died. Two years later her beloved father was stricken by a fatal heart attack. Lucyle attended school in Genoa City, Wisconsin and graduated from Genoa City High School in 1944. She was baptized April 14, 1943 at Genoa City's Methodist Church. She attended La Cross State Teachers College in La Cross, Wisconsin in 1944-1946. On October 6, 1947, Lucyle married George Trewyn in Waukegan, Illinois. The marriage ended the following year. She then attended and graduated from the Vogue-Ray School of Chicago in 1950, and began an extensive career in interior design. During the 1950s and 1960s, Lucyle's career took h! er to Boston, Milwaukee, Madison, Minneapolis and New Ulm, Minnesota. In 1961 Lucyle opened her own "Lucy's Interiors" on 19 N. Broadway, New Ulm, MN. That business became "Lucie Sieberg Interior Design" when she moved to Michigan in 1969. Beginning in 1970 and for the next 18 years, Lucyle worked for the Kalamazoo Public Museum as a coordinator of museum exhibits, who cataloged, inventoried and repaired artifacts. Many who were schoolchildren during that era will remember Lucyle as the woman who operated the Museum's Loan Collection, which allowed patrons to borrow cases containing museum artifacts for use in reports or during presentations. On her retirement Lucyle joined the Portage Senior Center and joined an exercise class. For several years she ran the coffee bar at the center. During her adult life, Lucyle was an avid collector of antiques, an artist in drawing and oils, and a fancier of cats. Lucyle owned several registered cats, the most notable being a female Burm! ese named "Pyo-Ping's My Lady of Holly Farm" and a female seal-point S iamese named "Kitti Kattery." There were many other Siamese in her life, namely Purrsia, Sasha, John Charles, and many domestic short-hairs, the most recent being Charley and Johnny. Lucyle is survived by a cousin on her father's side of the family, Elaine Strand of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and several Katzenberg cousins on her mother's side of the family, including Michael and Jean Katzenberg of Burlington and Genoa City, Wisconsin. Lucyle leaves behind several close friends in Portage and Kalamazoo, including the Joel Orosz family, Marge and Mary Prange, Julie Campbell, members of the Portage Senior Center's Body Rebound Class, and wonderful neighbors, Otto Buder and Tammy Wyatt. At her wishes, Lucyle will be cremated and her ashes will be spread at a personal site. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 3 PM at the Portage Senior Center, 320 Library Lane. Millard was born in Schoolcraft, son of Gertrude Lucina Nichols Roberts and Smith Minor Roberts. Since early January he had been looking forward to his 100th birthday on April 24. He was born in his family home which today is still occupied by his family members and has been a Centennial Farm since 1938. Millard attended Michigan State University, transferring to the University of Michigan and then the University of Michigan Medical School from which he graduated in 1936. There he had met Helen Andree, his wife to be and a student at U of M, whom he married in 1935. Upon completion of his internship at U of M he became a general practitioner in Fennville, MI. He then went on to specialize in general surgery and completed his residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago in 1945. Later he and his family moved from South Haven to Kalamazoo where they resided for many years. Millard lost his wife in 1967 to an auto accident ! and a few years later married former friend and high school classmate, Edna (Leppard) Yates of Vicksburg who predeceased him after over 25 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Smith VanderSalm of Richland. Surviving are his children, Mary (Arthur) Apkarian of Grand Rapids, George (Heidi) Roberts of Grand Rapids and Cathryn (John) VanderSalm of Richland; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are stepchildren, Jim (Linda) Yates of Knoxville, TN and Susan (Lee) Halladay of Vicksburg, and their children and grandchildren. Millard had three first cousins who were close to him; William (Sheila) Nichols, Beverly (Dave) Hamman and Robert (Rachel) Nichols. Millard had been a member of The Kalamazoo Academy of Medicine and the American College of Surgeons. Memorials may be made to the Vicksburg First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Of Kalamazoo Mrs. DeGraaff passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at her home. She was born March 15, 1920 in Hengelo, The Netherlands, one of five children to Henry and Tillie (VanderMark) Waterkamp. Harriet was a longtime member of Hope Reformed Church, and worked in the church library for many years. She was an avid reader and was a humble, beautiful, Christian woman. On February 10, 1940, she was united in marriage to Henry J. DeGraaff, who preceded her in death on December 21, 1989. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one son, David DeGraaff; one sister, Olga Huisman; and one granddaughter, Julie DeGraaff. Surviving are six children, Henry III (Karen) DeGraaff of Kalamazoo, Robert (Sarah) DeGraaff of Canton, NY, Gary (Rita) DeGraaff of Schofield, WI, Sally (Bob) Reese of Eloy, AZ, Linda DeGraaff of Kalamazoo, and Sharon (Mark) Haan of Westminster, CO; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Tillie (Rink) Slayer of Holland; two brothers, Henry "Bud" (Natalie) ! Waterkamp of Atlanta, MI, and Gary Waterkamp of Edwardsburg, MI; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. DeGraaff will be at 11:00 AM on Monday at Hope Reformed Church 910 Jenks Blvd., with Rev. Kent Frens officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest North Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3-6 PM on Sunday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St . and from 10-11 AM on Monday at the church.     3. I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Marie H. WORTHINGTON which was taken at a studio in Homer, Michigan. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's or early 1900's with Marie likely in her teens at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Marie and her family: Mary H. WORTHINGTON b. 15 May 1882 in Homer, MI to parents Charles WORTHINGTON & Clara EVANS. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters and one brother and her son, Ronald C. Whiting. She was born to Howard Y. and Mabel Jane (Brown) Harmon on July 5, 1918 in Battle Creek, Michigan. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and Argubright Business College. Mabel was married to the love of her life, Ronald G. Whiting, on May 29, 1941 at her sister's home in Kalamazoo. After being blessed to raise five children, Mabel went to work as a secretary for the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo for 15 years. After her retirement, she settled in Richland, MI and then at Park Village Pines of Kalamazoo. She dearly loved her husband, children, sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mabel was a passionate prayer warrior and her faith was evident to all who knew her. Her hobbies included writing, reading, swimming and being active in her Bible study "Grow! th Group". Mabel is most known for her "punny" sense of humor. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Ronald; her four children, Janet (Robert) Lynn of Richland, MI, Douglas L. Whiting of LaGrange, IL, Thomas M. (Sandra) Whiting of Mattawan, MI, Patricia (Russell) Rohr of Richland, MI; 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Mabel will be greatly missed but remembered with fond love. Visitation will be from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, March 19th at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Richland Chapel 9170 East D Avenue in Richland, MI 269-629-6022. A memorial service for Mabel M. Whiting will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Bethel Baptist Church in Kalamazoo with Rev. Dana Arledge and Rev. Paul Deal, officiating. A private family burial service will precede the memorial service. Mabel's family wishes to give a special thank you to Dr. Dielemann and the staff of Rose Arbor Hospice for their tender care.
