Dovie was born June 21, 1919 in Estill Springs, TN, the last of 10 children to the late Alford and Mattie Belle (Parker) Stamper. She was an over 40-year member of East Main Church of Christ. On July 2, 1949, Dovie was united in marriage to Sydney Weahunt, who preceded her in death on May 28, 1995. Also preceding her in death was her son, Stephen Weahunt. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara (Woodrow "Bud") Peckhem of Richland; a daughter-in-law, Patti Weahunt of TN; five grandchildren, Debbie (Tim) Cook of Richland, Karen (Peter) Lawrence of Mattawan, Mikel (Jennifer) Graham of AL, Steven (Deidre) Weahunt of TN, and Shane Weahunt of TN; six great-grandchildren, Elicia and Joshua Cook, Natalie and Nathan Lawrence, and Corrin and Mikel Carter Graham; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1 PM on Wednesday at the East Main Church of Christ, 2528 East Main St. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest ! Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Tuesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Age 97 Formerly of Kalamazoo, MI Passed away March 1, 2008 at home after a short illness. He was born on March 30, 1911 in Traverse City, Michigan and served in the Army in World War II. He lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan for 35 years and was instrumental in bringing an International Hockey Franchise to Kalamazoo. He was one of the original owners of the Wings Stadium and was employed by the Upjohn Company for 40 years. He retired as a senior executive in 1978. He moved to Ponte Vedra, Florida in 1980 and began 25 years of service to the Jacksonville Community. He helped found the Executive Service Corp. and did volunteer consulting work for a number of companies and non-profit organizations including the Spina Bifida, Center. He was an active member and speaker for the American Marketing Association and served as a board member and interim director for the Hope Haven Children's Clinic. He made a tremendous educational contribution to the College of Business at the University of N. Florida where he taught and ! helped develop their strategic management program and co-authored one of their business textbooks in his later years. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alma Hutto Huellmantel; three children, Judy Stevens of Ponte Vedra, Florida John Huellmantel of Greenville, S. Carolina and Dr. Alan Huellmantel of Charleston, S. Carolina; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Of South Bend, IN Passed away peacefully on March 29, 2008, surrounded by his family. He was born in Bangor, Michigan September 12, 1920, to Glenwood and Hazel (Sheffield) Derby. On December 9, 1943, he married Jean Graham Derby, who preceded him in death, as did his son, Robert G. Derby. He is survived by his brother, David N. Derby and his children, Linda Derby Monroe and Kenneth D. Derby. He is survived by three grandchildren, Christine Carson, Susan Monroe Lukowski, and Daniel Monroe; and six great-grandchildren, Sydney and Sam Carson, Daphne Monroe-Wessendorf, Simon and Ramona Monroe Lukowski and Olivia Monroe. Dr. Derby served in the Army Air Corps in North Africa and the Mediterranean Theater during World War II. When he returned to America, he continued his military career in the Air Force Reserve, retiring with the rank of Colonel in 1976. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 1977 by President Carter. Upon completing his PhD at the University of Michigan, Dr. Derby joined! the faculty of the Physics Department at Western Michigan University in 1955. He retired in 1984, and then returned to teaching in 1986 and was named Professor Emeritus. In 1978, he received the Alumni Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Derby's major field of study within Physics was Optics, and he developed teaching and research programs at WMU for the then-emerging fields of Spectroscopy, Lasers, and Holography. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Milton Adult Day Services of South Bend, the Abrams Planetarium of Michigan State University, or the "WMU Foundation - Physics Department", in care of Langeland Family Funeral Home. Age 62 Of Alamo Township Died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Bronson Hospital from a stroke. Dan was born on January 28, 1946 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Ray and Mary (White) Criner. Dan was a retired Ironworker for Local 340 in Battle Creek. As a child his family had a cottage on Big Star Lake in Baldwin, MI that he enjoyed. He had a vivacious personality and a lot of charisma. Dan loved the outdoors. He was a hunter and a fisherman. He liked to fish the Platte River near Traverse City. He enjoyed fishing on Lake Michigan for many years. He also liked to pheasant hunt in Iowa. Dan was a fishing lure collector and was a member of the National Fishing Lure Collector's Club. He attended many lure and gun shows. Dan enjoyed spending time with his friends and always liked to play poker. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Mary Criner, his sister, Marion Raber, his infant daughter, Rose, and his son Joshua. Surviving is his wife Doris of 36 years; a son, Andy, a sister, Patricia Flight of ! St. Augustine, FL, a niece, Sherry Goodman and her two sons of Charleston, S.C. and other relatives. There has been a celebration of his life Mass at Nazareth. Cremation has taken place. Dan was a Gift of Life Donor. "Dan-O" Of Kalamazoo Died peacefully Saturday March 29, 2008. Dan-o had a big heart and a great sense of humor. He spent most of his retirement from Ironworkers Local 340 hunting, fishing, and playing cards. When he was not in the woods or on the pier he was chasing the sale of hunting and fishing collectibles. Dan was born on January 28, 1946 in Kalamazoo, MI and was preceded in death by a son, Joshua in 2003. Surviving are his wife Dorothy; son, Andy; and in-laws, Stan and Elsie Jacher. He will be deeply missed by many, many friends. A gathering for family and friends will be held Friday April 4, from 5-7PM with a service at 7:00PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. In July of 1951, Marjorie was united in marriage with Donald Rutherford, who preceded her in death on November 26, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harry Lum and a sister, Helen Massey. Marjorie is survived by a son, Dr. Donald (Jean) Rutherford, Jr. of Grand Haven; a granddaughter, Katherine Victoria Rutherford of Grand Haven; a brother, George Lum of Kalamazoo and several nieces and nephews.
