He was born January 15, 1956, the son of the late Deacon Robert L. and Arty Edwards, in Kalamazoo, MI. Willie professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a student in the Kalamazoo Public School system and later transferred to Hackett Catholic Central High School.. Willie was employed as an Information Technology Technician and worked in this capacity at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA, the Federal Center in Battle Creek, and as a self-employed contractor specializing in website design, computer graphics and system repair. He also taught computer classes for the Adult Education Centers in Kalamazoo and Portage. Willie was very outgoing with a humble and loving spirit. He enjoyed spectator sports and was an avid University of Michigan football fan. He loved traveling, old school music, and greatly enjoyed the time! spent teaching and sharing his knowledge of computers with others. He will be forever remembered as an icon by his family and friends for his determination to live life to its fullest. In 1979, Willie married the late Debra Agnew and was later wed to DuMaresq Lockhart. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lonnie Edwards. Mr. Edwards leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Angela Agnew, Yolanda, Danielle and Willie Edwards, Jr., of Memphis, TN, Alexander (Taneesha) Edwardsw, of Kalamazoo, and Nicholas and Audrey Lockhart-Edwards, of Montgomery Village, MD. Also, surviving are 13 grandchildren; brother, Paul Douglas Edwards; sisters, Selena (Larry) Irvin, Mildred (Melvin) Williams, Vernice (David) Jones, Shirley (Lorenzo) Zackery, and Paulette Brooks, Mr. Edwards also leaves a large and loving circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Kenny Shotwell, Scott Salters, Jalean Hunt and Glorius Phillips. Services will be held 1:00 P! M Saturday, with a 12:00 Noon Family Hour at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Pastor Addis Moore, officiating. Of Kalamazoo Passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Kairos Dwelling. Bernard was born September 19, 1914 in Comstock, MI, to the late Frederick and Helen (Holtgrieve) Coates. He was united in marriage to Winifred "Winnie" Whipple (DeVries) on June 5, 1951, she preceded him in death in June of 2006. Bernard served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 until honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church for many years. Surviving Bernard are his grandchildren, Robert (Karen) Zylman, Mark Coates and Julie Fenner; step-daughter, Janice Marsh and her son Steven Marsh of Plainwell; sister, Doris (William) Dorough; and many nieces and nephews. Pratt, deceased, and mother of Juanita Lockwood and Ernest J. Pratt. She is survived by Juanita; her four sons Daniel, Andrew, Mark Frenette, Michael Lockwood; Juanita's eight grandchildren; Ernest, his three daughters, Rachael Aguliara, Dawn Simms, Joanne Donavon; a son Tom Pratt; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sister Mary Theresa Johnston and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Anita was born in Upper Michigan and lived in Escanaba until the 1970's moving to Kalamazoo to live near her son and sisters. Anita and Maurice loved to travel and spent many winters with Juanita in Alaska, Colorado, Nevada and Southern California. Maurice died in 1993 and Anita continued to spend several months a year with her daughter. Anita had a stroke in March of 2007. She then moved to Hawaiian Gardens, CA to live with her daughter. Anita was an amazing mother, friend, and housewife. She did beautiful sewing, making many clothes, desig! ning and sewing all of her square dance dresses and Maurice's shirts. They taught many square dance classes. Maurice was a great caller also. Anita created lovely embroidery pieces, crocheted lace sweaters, hats and afghans. Other interests besides family, traveling and square dancing were playing cards, bingo, playing the slots in casinos, fishing and painting. Maurice loved to hunt and Anita would join him to do all the cooking. She was a very good cook too. They had a camp North of Rapid River MI and went there whenever they could get away. Anita was very active in St. Anthony and later St. Thomas Catholic churches in Escanaba and St. Mary Catholic Church in Kalamazoo. Maurice was a Knight of Columbus as is his son, Ernest. Anita will be missed. A funeral mass was said at St. Mary Catholic Church March 29th at 10:00 AM and a lovely reception followed for family and friends in St. Mary's Hall. Anita's ashes will be brought to Escanaba to wait for burial when the ground is! unthawed. A memorial mass will be said at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Saturday April 12th at 11:00 AM with a reception following for family and friends in St. Thomas's Hall. Joyce was a member of Fourth Reformed Church and was retired from the Upjohn Company. She was an extremely gifted athlete and enjoyed playing tennis, softball and volleyball and enjoyed watching baseball on TV. On April 23, 1948, Joyce was united in marriage with Mr. Richard Dombos and part of their honeymoon included attending opening day at Tiger's Stadium. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband on June 26, 1973. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a half-brother, Carl Berry and a half-sister, Aileen Berry. Surviving are two children; Kathleen Schlukebir of Kalamazoo and Dan (Mary) Dombos of Kalamazoo; a step-son, Richard Dombos of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren, one great-grandson; two brothers, Neil (Gloria) Berry of Kalamazoo and Gordon (! On June 20, 1941, she married Harold Borr, who preceded her in death on April 14, 1986. She was also preceded by her parents; two sisters, Mildred Joldersma and Jean Nieuwsma and a brother, Eugene Potter. She was born March 21, 1925 in Grand Rapids, to James and Anna (Schmiezer) Campbell. Betty graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School and attended nurses' training at St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing through the Nurse Cadet program in 1946, during World War II. She worked for over 30 years at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo as a house nursing supervisor, retiring in 1987. On October 18, 1947, she married Francis "Frank" Deschaine in Grand Rapids. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1975. Betty moved to Spring Lake five years ago to be near her family after 45 years in Kalamazoo. She enjoyed golfing, reading and spending time with her family. She is lovingly remembered by her five daughters, Corinne Galles of Kalamazoo, Anne (Gil) Naru of Lexington Park, MD, Pat (Kirk) Breitels of Spring Lake, Joan (Dan) Copeland of Ft. Bloomington, MN Formerly of Kalamazoo Went to be with her Lord Monday afternoon March 10, 2008 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Doris was born March 20, 1935 in Anderson, Indiana a daughter of Elmer and Mary (Stanley) Dailey. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident for 22 years before moving to Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents. On June 24, 1957, she was united in marriage to Douglas E. Wood who survives. Also surviving, two sons, Thomas (Susan) Wood of Thousand Oaks, CA and Douglas (Deborah) Wood of Leavenworth, KS, and three grandchildren, Madison, Skyler, and Jennifer. Graveside services will be held 11 o'clock Monday in Moore Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice. Age 95 Of Richland, MI Formerly of Anderson, IN Died peacefully Friday afternoon, March 21, 2008, at his residence. John was born on December 21, 1912 in Pendleton, IN and was the son of Fred and Bessie (Brandon) Harrison. He graduated in 1934 with his degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, Lafayette, IN. John started his career with General Motors in Muncie, IN and in 1936, he was sent to New Jersey with Delco Battery. When World War II began, he volunteered in the Navy Air Corps as a flight instructor. In 1944, he married the former, Peggy Myers of Montclair, NJ and their marriage of 61 years ended with her death on December 23, 2005. After the war, he established Delco Battery plants around the world and finished his career as the Manufacturing Manager at four battery plants, retiring in 1974. John is survived by his son, Jay M. (Molly) Harrison of Chesterton, IN; his two daughters, Jessica A. Harrison of Tucson, AZ and Susan J. (Jeff Price) Harrison of Richland, MI; by his granddaughter, Laura (Jeff) R! yan of Brooklyn, NY; his great-granddaughter: Anne Harrison and his great- grandson, Maxwell Jay Lewis of Philadelphia, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Maurine Jacobs. Cremation will occur as per John's wishes. A private gathering of family and friends will be held in Richland to celebrate his life. A memorial service will be held in Anderson, IN in the Summer of 2008. He will be interred next to his wife, Peggy at Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, IN. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Margaret (Meg); adoring daughters, Carolyn (Jerry) Brownell, Karen (Mick) McCanlies, Kelli (Jason) Luke, and Catherine Feutz; and his precious grandchildren, Madison, Paige and Ryan Mizikar, and Payton, Ella, Eli, and baby Luke. Bill will be sincerely missed by his family. He was the consummate big brother to siblings, Joseph (Sue), Jerilyn Binder, G. Michael (Candy), and Patrick (Jodi) Feutz; and by his extended family through his beloved "Maggie"; brothers-in-law, Ken (Mary), Jerry (Rosemary), Richard (Diane), and Patrick Mankel; and many nieces and nephews; as well as lifetime friends Ron (Kathy) Edington and their children. Born in Grand Rapids to Gerald and Roanne Feutz on May 4, 1941, Bill graduated from Catholic Central High School and attended Aquinas College. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, and was a de! dicated employee of the General Motors Fisher Body Plant in Kalamazoo for 30 years. Outdoors activities were a big part of Bill's life. He enjoyed many years of coaching his daughters in softball and soccer and was an intense competitor in golf, softball, and any other sport. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter, and Detroit Tiger fan. Bill's love for his family, friendliness towards everyone, sense of humor, unflagging optimism, steadfastness, and passion for life will long be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known him. Family and friends may pay their respects at a visitation on Monday, March 24, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. , where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake St. at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 25th with Rev. She was a long time resident of Richland and Marshall, Michigan and moved to Millington, Tennessee in 1990. In 1996, she moved to California to be closer to her daughter. Laura was born February 13, 1918 in Anamoose, North Dakota, to Gustav and Amelia Ebbert, formerly of Kalamazoo. Laura received her teaching degree in 1940 from Western Michigan University where she was active in the Internal Relations Club, Later Elementary club and YWCA. During her 35-year teaching career, she taught in the Upper Peninsula, Mount Morris, Allegan and the Kalamazoo school systems. She last taught 3rd and 5th grades at Northglade Elementary in the 1960s and 1970s. Laura married John Lynn Brownell of Watersmeet Michigan in 1952 and was a devoted wife to him until his battle with colon cancer ended in 1979. She is survived by her daughters, Julie Brownell Walters of San Francisco, California, Vala! rie Chapmen of Millington, Tennessee; granddaughters, Amy Melissa Walters, Sara Ellen Chapman and Jennifer Lorelei Chapman; nephew and niece, Joanne Schultz of Lake Ann and Dick Proud of Buchanan, Michigan. Laura enjoyed traveling, antiquing and owned Candleglo Antiques in Richland. A celebration of life event for family and friends is being planned for the summer of 2008.
