Some of those occupations were unknown to me. Eugene is my grandfather and Edward his brother. Edward is the last surviving sibling and I've been meaning to write him a letter with questions but just haven't yet. I also didn't have that first wife of Edward's either, so thank you. And yes, Lambert was my grandmother's first husband. He died in WWII. zlatica, thank you for the information and links. I've seen several spellings of my last name including MEIDON and that it is generally pronounced MY-don whereas now we pronounce it as MAY-jon. He was a chrome plater for Precision Casting, owned home at 2236 Regent. 1955 Kalamazoo City Directory: Edward Majdan, wife was Mildred. You probably have this information already.... Antoinette (Toni) Sukach Lambert married Eugene J. Majdan in November of 1949. ("Lambert" might have been her first marriage?). He was born December 25, 1960 in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Darrell and Ann Louise Van De Laare. John was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman who was always ready for an adventure. He enjoyed being an amateur radio operator and used the call letters KG8PO. His greatest love in life was martial arts. As a young man, John studied at the Okinawa Karate Academy and received his First Degree Black Belt at the age of 19. John was one of the first members of the Battle Creek Kendo Club and became the owner of the Battle Creek Budokan. He continued his studies at the Japanese Cultural Center in Chicago under the late Toyota Sensei. John held a Fifth Degree Black Belt and trained many champions at the local, district, state, regional, national and international level. John was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Van De Laare. Arland was a World War II veteran and a retired high school principal. He taught at Cadillac High and served as principal at Boyne City, Portage and Portage Northern during his 34 year career in the Michigan school system. He was involved with the founding of Portage Northern High School and served as the school's first principal. He was inducted into the Portage Northern Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990. Arland is well remembered by many of his former colleagues and students. He shared their enthusiasm and always had the ability to make each one feel like they were someone special. Arland was a devoted and cherished husband and father. He was a humble, modest man who touched so many lives with his kindness. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beatrice; daughters, Marianne Kay Horowitz and Kathryn Lee Martin; and three grandsons, Jeffrey, Sam and Alexander. He lived and worked in the Benton Harbor/ Coloma area until 1979 when he married his wife Candace (Zechiel) and they relocated to Kalamazoo. Jerry ran his own refrigeration and appliance repair service for many years until an injury forced him to retire. He loved the Lord and also loved to help people. A 1991 graduate of Portage Central High School, Bill earned an A.A.S. degree in Law Enforcement from Kalamazoo Valley Community College and went on to earn a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Western Michigan University. On June 14, 2003, he was united in marriage with Alycia Iwan of St. Joseph. Of Portage Barbara A. Kounelis, a loving wife and cherished mother and grandmother, died April 22, 2008 at the Bronson Adult Medical Unit in Kalamazoo. Wife of John M. Kounelis for 43 years, Barbara was born March 25, 1930 in Ottumwa, IA, to the late Eugene and Rowena (Carter) Billeter. Barbara grew up being raised in the Catholic religion, but in later years became a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Kalamazoo. Barbara was known to be an avid reader and she loved staying in touch with family and friends through letters and phone calls. She stayed up with current events, was a car enthusiast and enjoyed golf. She loved animals, too. Barbara is survived by her husband, John Kounelis; children, Jerry (Diane) Young of Bluegrass, IA, Michelle (Eric VerHey) Kounelis of Leonidas, MI, Karin Kounelis of Vicksburg, Michael (Kristine) Kounelis of Mattawan; grandchildren, Christopher Young, Jimmy (Susan) Young, Savannah Kounelis and Aubrey Kounelis; great-grandchildren, Noah Yo! ung, Abigail and Brianna Young; step-daughter, Pauline (Carlos) Macedo; brother, Richard "Bud" Billeter; sisters, Beverly (David) Miller and Mary Beth Masel; many nieces and nephews. Candy succumbed to breast cancer and had been treated by compassionate physicians in both Michigan and Arizona. Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan tended both Candy and her family during her last days. Candy was born to Carol Fewless (Hite) of Augusta and Robert Allen Kogler of Marion, Michigan on March 20, 1972 in Cadillac, Michigan. Candy's early childhood was spent in Marion and Cadillac. She attended Marion Elementary School, St. Ann's School in Cadillac, and Immaculate Conception School in Three Rivers, Michigan. She graduated from Portage Northern High School in 1990. She attended Davenport College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. A road trip with a friend in 1994 took Candy to Seattle where she developed a love of the city and as Candy so often did, instantly decided to make her home there; developing a close network of friends and! co-workers. She worked initially, in a day care center and then in the computer industry. Her work in the area of setting up data centers led her to a year-long assignment in Berlin, Germany, where she immediately was taken by the beauty of that city. She had the pleasure of living in the home of a German family and enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. She relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, in 2006, to work as a mortgage lender with a group of brokers whom she had met in Seattle. Candy is survived by her mother, Carol Fewless (Hite) of Augusta; her father, Robert Allen Kogler of Marion, Michigan; grandfathers, Orlan Fewless of Kalamazoo and Joe Crane of Marion. Her grandmothers, Dorothy Fewless and Dorothy Crane, as well as her aunt, Sunday Fewless and cousin, Brian Cheney, preceded her in death. She is also survived by a large group of aunts, uncles, cousins and wonderful friends. He was born November 29, 1948 in Detroit, the son of Louis Edward and Eleanor Marie (Millington) Sepanik. Rick proudly served in the United States Army for three years, including assignment to South Viet Nam and West Germany. Following active duty with the Corps of Engineers, he served eight years in the reserves, including the National Guard and the Rangers. In 1985, Rick married the former Louise Shepard, joyously adding her daughters, Andrea and Cheryl to his life and thereafter loving and caring for them, considering them his own. He was employed by the State of Michigan in the MDOT for 18 years, followed by 13 years of over-the-road trucking. Rick loved his Lord, family, people, nature, meteorology, history, traveling and trains. In addition to his wife, Louise, Rick is survived by his daughters, Andrea (Derick) Daniels of Kalamazoo and Cheryl Eriksen of Paris, KY; gra! nddaughters, Rachael Quick and Lydia Daniels of Kalamazoo; a sister, Shelley Sepanik of Farmington Hills.
