Faust was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2007 and underwent radiation treatment, but his incurable cancer took his life early Sunday morning, May 4, 2008. He passed away peacefully at home with several friends at his bedside. He lived a very full life and worked as a truck driver and postal worker. He served his country during World War II as a radio technician and was based in several European countries. Faust and his deceased wife, Helen, were kind hearted people who donated generously to the Salvation Army and Crystal Cathedral. Their kindness didn't go unnoticed and in 1993, the Kalamazoo Gazette presented them with a plaque highlighting their generosity. The article stated that Helen and Faust gave to elderly homebound people instead of buying gifts for each other. After retirement, Faust spent many hours repairing computers at home. He was also an avid photographer and his wide collection of ca! meras lends support of his interest in that field. He also enjoyed gardening and spent hours in his greenhouse. Every spring, his Rembrandt tulips adorned the driveway to his house. He surrounded himself with friends and enjoyed occasional visits to area casinos.
