He was born September 12, 1934 in Kalamazoo, the son of Adrian and Johanna (Kannegieter) Alphenaar and had been a lifelong area resident. For over 50 years he was a professional painter for Alphenaar & Mejeur Painting & Decorating. Ken was a former member of First Christian Reformed Church where he had served as deacon and elder and was currently a member of Grace Christian Reformed Church. He had served on the Kalamazoo Christian School Board and on the Board of Park Village Pines. On September 24, 1954, Ken was united in marriage to the former Joyce Meulman, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Sallie (Michael) Stripp of Richland, Mary Alphenaar of Portage, Nancy (Jeffrey) Westendorp of Holland; grandchildren, Michael Westendorp, A.J. Westendorp, Lauren Westendorp, Bethany Stripp, Sarah Stripp and Nathan Stripp; in-laws, Henry Kiel of Portage, Laura Alphenaar of Rochester, NY, Paul (Jena) Meulman o! f Gobles; and several nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Alphenaar and a sister, Muriel Kiel. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Monday, June 30, 2008 at the Grace Christian Reformed Church (1724 Whites Road) with Rev. Dr. Harry Arnold and Rev. Timothy Bero, officiating. A private family interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. She had been a longtime Kalamazoo area resident, and was employed for 32 years, retiring in 1970. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church; Braille Workers; and Esther Circle. She was preceded in death by her only son, Philip in October of 1990; and brother, Paul GRAHAM. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-57 during the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 30 years at Union Camp. Don's hobbies included making gemstone jewelry, gardening, going to flea markets and was an avid old car buff. He was a life member of the Kalamazoo American Legion Post. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Lamphiear in 2005 and by a brother, Frederick Lamphiear. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William and Allison Lamphiear of Kalamazoo; two grandchildren, Anthony Lamphiear and Kimberly (Scott) Poe, all of Kalamazoo; two great-granddaughters, Caley Lamphiear and Juliet Poe; a brother, Melvin (Carol) Lamphiear of Huntington, IN and three sisters, Barbara (LeRoy) Hummel of Ft. Mariette was an avid book enthusiast, enjoyed crossword puzzles and working with plants and flowers. She also spoke several languages. Mariette was well liked by all who knew her and took pride in the friendships she made over the years. She was a good and moral person who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Survived by husband of 58 years, William "Bill" Granet; sons, Bruce Granet of Massachusetts and Roger Granet of Columbus, Ohio. Preceded in death by brother, Arsene Bekaert. For over 20 years she worked as a social worker for Family & Children Services. She was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and past member of Zonta International. Ruth volunteered for several organizations including Hospice of Southwest Michigan, West Michigan Cancer Center and the South Haven American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Campbell in 1983 and William Shepperd in 1985. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Surviving are her son, William J. (Joan) Campbell III of Kalamazoo; her grandson, William J. (Desiree) Campbell IV of Kalamazoo; a great- grandson, Gavin Xavier Campbell; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Jan Walton. Gayle was born October 10, 1929 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Leo and Gertrude (Leetz) Polmanteer and had lived in the Kalamazoo area many years. She graduated from Comstock High School and was employed for 30 years at Bronson Hospital as a ward clerk. Gayle was a creative person who loved playing Nintendo, doing crafts and using the computer. She was also a feisty person and you always knew where you stood with her. She would do anything for her friends. Gayle loved her family, her husband, her daughter and her granddaughter, her little red car, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and watching the squirrels around her home. She enjoyed tracking many generations of the squirrels who lived in her back yard. She was a survivor, having fought back from a car accident and cancer. But her recent battle with COPD was one she did not win. Her survivors include her husband of over 55 years, Jack Douglas Warner; her daughter, Pamela (Wayne) Swiler of Lake ! Odessa; her granddaughter, Amanda Lake of Holt; a sister, Sibella Richardson of Augusta; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, James and Vera Bogan. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Pastor Mark Jarvie, officiating. Interment will take place in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday one hour prior to the service.
