Bill was born June 3, 1926 in Chicago, the only child of Reginald and Irene (Price) Laurent. He graduated from DePaul Academy in 1944 and attended Bowling Green State University and the University of Notre Dame while on active duty in the Navy. He graduated from Bowling Green in 1948 with a B.A. in English. Bill was an avid outdoorsman and writer who worked for Hunting & Fishing magazine and Fishing Tackle Trade News in Chicago, and as advertising manager at the Shakespeare Company in Kalamazoo for many years. He also worked for the National Sporting Goods Association, the Chrysler Marine Division in Detroit, and BBG & W Advertising in Kalamazoo. He ran his own marketing firm, Main Street Marketing, before retirement. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Raphael, and by his second wife, Mary Ellen (Davis) Laurent. He is survived by their son, Jacob ! Paul Laurent, of Arizona. He is also survived by his first wife, Clarajean (Roeder) Crum, and by three daughters, Anne Kelly) Laurent of Silver Spring, Md.; Elisabeth (Michael) Sochacki of Rockford, Mich.; Catherine (Jordan) Schau of Portage, MI and seven grandchildren: Andrew, Katherine and Jacqueline Sochacki; Emma and Dana Schau; and Patrick and Aaryn Zimmerman. Bill had a great sense of humor and enjoyed literature and the arts. He loved fishing and hunting, golf, card games, reading The New Yorker magazine and listening to public radio. Over the years he wrote many letters to the editor of the Kalamazoo Gazette on a variety of topics. He and Mary Ellen were members of St. Thomas More Parish in Kalamazoo for more than 30 years. A Funeral Mass will take place Monday, December 28th, 10 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 421 Monroe St., Kalamazoo, Fr. Ken Schmidt presiding. Family will greet friends from 9-10 AM just prior to the Funeral Mass. A luncheon will follow. B! ill's ashes will be buried privately at Fort Custer National Cemetery. She was a resident of the Kalamazoo area for over 30 years and was a member of First Reformed Church of Portage. On September 7, 1945, she was united in marriage to Duke H. Yonkers who preceded her in death on June 7, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ruth Loux and Norma Albers; and a son, Lester Yonkers in 1980. Surviving are her son, Rodger (Sally) Yonkers of Three Rivers; her daughter, Lynn Yonkers of Portage; a daughter-in-law (wife of the late Lester Yonkers) Sandy (Mark) Hulst of Grand Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Age 88 Portage Passed away peacefully at Wynwood of Portage on December 21, 2009. Don was born July 28, 1921 in Lansing, MI the son of William and Clara (Karkau) Wordell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his parents; brother, Paul Wordell; his sister, Elizabeth Strubel; and his good friend, Ione Burke. Don is survived by his daughter, Nancy Wordell of Roseville, California, and his son, Richard (Yvonne) Wordell and grandson Austin of Portage, Michigan. Don was a lifetime member of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a star athlete at Lansing Eastern High School where he was all-state in both basketball and football. Don served in the Navy during World War II aboard a LSM-13, where he was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the American Area Campaign Medal. Don was employed at Motor Wheel for forty years as an engineer. At Motor Wheel, he participated in the development of many innovative wheel production designs. ! In retirement and throughout life, his hobbies included a love for sports, particularly golf, fishing and bowling. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Frances was preceded in death by her husband George of over 60 years in 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Penelope "Penny" Smith of Norfolk, Virginia; three grandchildren, J. On November 4, 1943, Virginia was united in marriage to Earnest Brigham, who preceded her in death in 2004. She served as a member of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps during World War II. Virginia was employed by Child Guidance Clinic and later A.M. Todd Co. for over 12 years until her retirement in 1978. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. Virginia also volunteered for over 20 years at Borgess Medical Center for the Red Cross. Joseph was born on April 15, 1921 in New York, NY the son of the late Paul and Calogera (Pricontti) DiLeo. Joseph lived in New York until he joined the Army Air Force and served as a Staff Sergeant from 1942-1946. He was stationed for a brief time at Ft. Custer in Battle Creek, MI where he met his wife, Pauline Peterson, whom he married June 29, 1946. Joe retired from Hammond Machinery where he worked for 40 Years as a foreman. He was a member of St. Augustine Cathedral for many years and later St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Joe was preceded in death by his wife in 1992 and his brothers, Charlie DiLeo and John DiLeo. He is survived by his three children, daughter, Susan (Robert) Graving of Portage, MI, son Dr. Paul DiLeo of Oakland, CA and daughter, Nancy DiLeo of Grand Rapids, MI. She was born on May 16, 1955, in Syracuse, NY, and moved to Portage in 1975. She was graduated from Jackson High School, South Bend, IN, in 1973, where she was awarded a National Merit Scholarship. She attended Boston University and University of Michigan. She was formerly married to Bruce White. Margaret was predeceased by her mother, Mary Moskopp Tyler. She is survived by her father, Owen F. Tyler, Sr.; her brother, Owen F. Tyler, Jr.; her step-mother, Carolyn D. Tyler, and two step-brothers. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at 11:00 AM, at St. Barnabas Church, 929 E. Centre Avenue, Portage, MI 49002. Margaret possessed a brilliant mind and keen wit, which were sadly derailed by relentless mental illness. Her family rejoices that she is now in the loving embrace of our Lord and Savior. Portage, MI Passed away peacefully Thursday evening September 3, 2009. Barbara was born December 2, 1925 in Benton Harbor, Michigan a daughter of LaRue and Helen (Babcock) Woodward. Barbara graduated from Kalamazoo Central in 1944 and retired from Sears after 31 years as a sales associate. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling to national tournaments with her team and friends, her fondest memories of the events held in Reno and Las Vegas. Barbara enjoyed watching grandchildren and neighbors play in her pool on summer days. She was also a member of the Portage Moose Lodge #88. Barbara will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Joyce Fransico; and a brother, George Woodward. On July 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Duane B. Tibbs who survives. Also surviving, two sons, Randy (Cheryl) Tibbs of Kalamazoo and Danny Tibbs of Portage; two grandchildren, Danna Tibbs of Petoskey, MI and Dustin Tibbs of Charleston! , SC; a special friend, Tommi Borsini of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was born April 21, 1934, in Boon, Michigan, the daughter of Frank and Ethel (Platz) Yonkovitz and has been a Portage area resident since 1960. Through out the years she enjoyed traveling, shopping and was well known for making excellent cakes and candies. The most important part of her life was spending time with her family and wonderful friends. Proceeding Evelyn in death were her parents; all of her siblings and her son, Wayne Soderquist in 2009. Surviving are her children, Deborah (Rick) Shannon of Schoolcraft, David (Laura) Soderquist of Galesburg and Richard (Julie) Soderquist of South Haven; ten grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. In accordance with Evelyn's wishes cremation has taken place and a family graveside service will be held 3:00 PM Friday September 11 at the Boon West Side Cemetery, Boon Road, Boon, MI 49618. Arnold was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. On November 13, 1948, he was united in marriage to Esther Combs. Arnold was employed by General Motors until his retirement in 1992. He was an avid golfer and bowler and earned many trophies over the years. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Esther Reinbold; their two children, Linda (Clarence) Osborn of Mattawan, and Lon (Bailey) Reinbold of Paw Paw; two grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Osborn of Portage, and Teresa (Jeff) Hufnagle of Angola, IN; two great-grandchildren, Christian Osborn and Adam Hufnagle; one sister, Corlon Halsey of Edmore, MI; close friend, Ted Martin of Portage; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, and five brothers and sisters. Funeral services for Arnold will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Faith Fellowship Church, 44 W.! VW Avenue, Schoolcraft. Jack was born July 27, 1942 in Austin, IN, the son of Herbert and Ruth McIntosh and had lived in the Galesburg area for the past 41 years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a die maker for 27 years at General Motors and later worked for 13 years at Bentlers, Inc. in Galesburg. Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Galesburg. He was a dedicated family man and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was instrumental in founding Rocket Football and Pee Wee Wrestling in Galesburg and was an avid Galesburg-Augusta High School sports booster. Jack loved golf and his hobby was making custom golf clubs for his co-workers at General Motors. On September 26, 1960, he was married to Carol Laven, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and two daughters, Dwayne (Dana) McIntosh of Seattle, WA, Bryan McIntosh of Battle Creek, Pamela (Nicolas) Miihlbach of Cypress, TX and Karen Heath of Kalamazoo; six grandch! ildren, Trina, Matthew, Nicole (Dave), Christopher, Cody and Tyler; three great-grandchildren; a sister Jan (Robert) Hoffman and a brother Mike McIntosh, all of Ohio. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, September 9 at the First United Methodist Church of Galesburg, 111 W. Battle Creek St. with the Rev. Mona Joslyn officiating. She is survived by her husband, Alan; three children Miriam, Lewis and Sara and seven grandchildren Samuel, Peter, Abigail, Elizabeth, Joseph, Jack and Foster. She is also survived by the loving children of her sisters Henrietta and Edna, who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her parents Fanny and Joseph Kleiman of Yonkers, New York. Irene was born in New York City and graduated from Hunter College and Western Michigan University. She had careers as a Laboratory Technician at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and as a Manager of Geriatric Social Work at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. A celebration of Irene's life will be held in South Haven, Michigan on September 12 at 2:00 PM at Lakeshore Ciao Special Events Center.
