She was born September 12, 1940 in Columbus, OH, the daughter of Robert and Janice (Kirk) van Blaricom. Nan attended Miami University (Ohio) and received a Bachelor's Degree from Western Michigan University. Like her mother, she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She received her Minister in Religious Education degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL. As a member of First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo, Nan used her ministry background to help create the Stephen Ministry program. She served as coordinator of Stephen Ministry for many years. In Stephen Ministry congregations, lay caregivers (called Stephen Ministers) provide one-to-one Christian care to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated, divorced, unemployed, relocated, and others facing a crisis or life challenge. Stephen Ministry helps pastors and congregations provide quality caring ministry for as long as people need it. She loved to spend time with family and friends and travel as her health permitted. For 20 years, she had been the primary companion and caregiver to her mother, Janice. Born in Columbus, Ohio, she remained a lifelong fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed watching the teams on TV when she could no longer attend games in person. Surviving are her mother, Janice van Blaricom; one sister, Tina (Richard) Jensen; two brothers, Dan (Beverly) and Kirk (Judy) van Blaricom; three nieces, Jana (John) Gregg, Clare (Robert) Colón, and Annie Kaperak; and four nephews, Jay Jensen, Wes (Cathy) van Blaricom, Tom van Blaricom, and Luke van Blaricom, and six grand-nieces and nephews, Madeline, Andrew, Tacy and Ethan Colón; Maren Gregg; and Danny Kaperak. The family is grateful for Dr. Douglas Vernon and Rev. Sandy Elfring! and the staff of First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo, the many caring doctors and nurses of Bronson Methodist Hospital, and Nan's dear friends, including Mrs. Sue Paul. Funeral services for Nan will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park Street, with Rev. Dr. Douglas Vernon and Rev. Sandra Elfring officiating, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest North Cemetery. Of Portage Passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 24, 2010. Tim was born March 25, 1959 in Kalamazoo the son of Jack and Mary Lou Stanfill. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1979-1982. He was employed with Georgia Pacific until their time of closing and then joined Evergreen Packaging where he was currently employed. Tim loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed decorating for the holidays, no matter which one, he had decorations for that day. He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; children, Amy (Heath) Tyler, Mary Madonna, Patricia Madonna; seven grandchildren; a brother, Mike House; and several nieces and nephews. He served in the US Army Air Force during WWII. Shot down over the North Sea, he was captured and spent fourteen months in a German P.O.W. camp. He received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during capture. Floyd was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cyril Vosters. She was a lifelong area resident and was employed for 34 years with Bronson Methodist Hospital until her retirement in 2009. Linda loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending many of their functions. She also enjoyed working outdoors in her yard. Surviving are her daughter, Lori (Jim) Orlowski of Byron Center; two sons, David (Robin) Koning of Kalamazoo and Michael (Deonna) Koning of Mattawan; seven grand-children, Amy, Amanda and Brock Orlowski, Alyssa and Jonathan Koning, Evan and Ryan Koning; two brothers, Don (Joan) Stamm of Portage and Henry "Butch" (Renee) Stamm of Mattawan; a sister, Jeri Caron of Kalamazoo; several nieces and nephews. Kalamazoo Went Home to be with his Lord and Savior early Sunday morning, March 28, 2010. He was born September 4, 1922 in Otsego, the son of Samuel and Anna (Klooster) Hellenga and had lived in the Kalamazoo area since 1954. Fred served his country for 11 years during WWII in the United States Air Force, serving as a bomber and transport pilot. Fred attained the rank of Major and flew 43 missions in the South Pacific. He was the owner of Sackett's Carpet City since 1958, a member of Hope Reformed Church and a charter member of Immanuel Fellowship Church, where he served as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendant and teacher. He served his Lord, his Church, his family, and his country. This is the legacy he leaves behind for his family. On December 26, 1946, he married Marianna Norg, who survives. Also surviving are their two daughters, Sharon K. Hellenga of Santa Fe, NM and Karen A. (Tom) Boender of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Ryan, Chad and Ashley Boender; a sister, Bertha Woodwyk of By! ron Center; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the Immanuel Fellowship Church, 6015 West H Avenue, with Pastor Duane Vedders and Pastor John Byl, officiating. Age 79 Of Portage Allen J. Beebe, age 79 of Portage, died peacefully at his home and surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 27, 2010. He was born in Lansing on January 9, 1931 the son of Maynard J. and Nona (Thomas) Beebe. Allen graduated from Mendon High School in 1949 and later graduated from Michigan State University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-54. He was married to Joyce Haas on Nov. 27, 1954 in Saint Edward Catholic Church in Mendon and they have resided in Portage since their marriage. Allen was associated with the Beltone Hearing Aid Company for many years. Allen is survived by his wife, Joyce; five children and their spouses, Lori Ann and Tim Vargason of Kalamazoo, Timothy and Debra Beebe of Portage, Kathy Lynn and Brian O'Boyle of Morgantown, WV, Jane and Mark Bainbridge of Kalamazoo, and Patrick and Susan Beebe of Jackson; 13 grandchildren, Caitlyn and Chelsea Vargason, Justin (Sarah) Beebe, Brandon, Cassandra, and Jennifer Beebe, Colin and Bridget O'Boyle, Lauren and! Emily Bainbridge, Sophia, Lily, and Annabelle Beebe; one brother, Robert Beebe of Palm Springs, CA.; and many in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a daughter, Alycia Marie Beebe. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home Mendon and where there will be a Scripture Service held at 6:30 PM. The funeral mass will be 11 AM Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Center Street in Portage with Rev. Father Christopher Ankley, Associate Pastor officiating. The family will also receive friends for one hour prior to services at the church. Following mass and a luncheon at the church, interment will take place in Saint Edward Catholic Cemetery in Mendon at 3 PM. Memorials may be directed to either the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
