My gg grandfather George JENNINGS was a constable in 1860 and a sheriff in 1870 in census records. Would like to know more about a possible strike by workers there between 1870 and 1874. The working coalminers gave George an inscribed gift which I have. I just wonder why he received it, did he have a financial interest in the mine or work there? George had 4 daughters Alice who I lose track of after 1860, Dora who married Newton MOORE Nov24, 1875, Rose Bell who married Robert C MILLS, and Blanche M who married C C GREER in Dallas Tex Sept 14,1887.
