She passed away at Oak-lawn Hospital in Marshall, MI. She has resided at Marshall Manor Nursing Home for the past three years. She was born November 21, 1923 in Lansing, the daughter of Howard Monroe and Edna Pearl (Brown) Newman. Lorrayne met her future husband at Lansing Eastern High School. She married Herbert Clark Claflin on April 21, 1942 in Lansing. Lorrayne loved her cats and enjoyed knitting afghans and baby blankets. Years ago she was very skilled at cake decorating and making various candies. During World War II, Lorrayne became one of the first female frame girls for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. switching department in Lansing, MI. Lorrayne was actively involved for many years with the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids as a foster parent for girls. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Penny Sue Claflin; granddaughter, Precious Dawn Claflin; two daughters-in-law, Patricia Cl! aflin and Bertha Malinda Claflin. She is survived by three sons, Ronald Eugene (Cheryl) Claflin of Mason, MI, David Michael (Candace) Claflin Sr. of Kalamazoo, MI, and Steven De-wayne Claflin of Selah, WA; grandchildren, Kelli Marie (Larry) Marshburn of Beaumont, TX, Dave (LeDona) Claflin Jr. of Beaumont, TX, Nancy Ann Marie Claflin of Selah, WA, Brian James (Dawn) Claflin of Norfolk, VA; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Michelle and Brennan Michael Claflin of Beaumont, TX, Hannah Caitlynn Claflin of Norfolk, VA, and Chase Maverick Marshburn of Beaumont, TX; two sisters, Marie Andrews of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and Jean Hale of Portland, OR. Cremation has taken place and in accordance with Lorrayne's wishes there will be no funeral or memorial. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. All arrangements are being handled by the Craig Kempf Funeral Home Marshall, MI Published in the Kalamazoo Gazette on 12/8/2004.
