I am looking for a 'John M. Gunn', born c1824 in Canada, whose parents were both born in Scotland. My John M. Gunn was somewhere in Mich., when one of his children was born c1867, but I've not been able to locate where in Mich. I am not certain that the John Gunn who married Mary Marsh was in fact, my John M. Gunn, as other records indicate that my John did not immigrate into the US. from Cananda until 1862. However, my John did name an older daughter, "Mary M". who was born c1856. Also, the 1880 census indicates that my John M. Gunn's oldest 3 children were born in Canada, not in the US., so if my John was the same John who married Mary Marsh in Mich. in 1851, then they must have married in Mich., but returned to Canada for the birth of several children, then immigrated into the US., in 1862. My John M. Gunn also had a son he named Charles S. Gunn, who was born in 1880 in Kansas, which made me look at you. Might you have any knowledge of where your Charles or his parents were born, or have you any knowledge of him being connected to a John M. Gunn? I do see a John Gunn listed as living in Jackson Co., on the 1870 census index, in the Rives Township, page 604, however the census images are not coming up today for some reason, so I've not been able to check him out yet. The known children of my John M. Gunn were: Mary M., John A., Andreso G., Lillian A., Ella E., Frank K., Cora M., Ivy G., and Charles S. These were the ones listed in his home in 1880. He appears to be married to a younger woman at this time, named Agness, and there is a 9 yr. age gap bwt. the older 3 children and the younger 6, so I'd assume he was married to someone else previously (maybe Mary Marsh) and may have other grown children out of the home by then that I do not yet know of.
