But my John Walsh was killed by lightning on 5/26/1907. He is buried in Hillcrest cemetery about 25 ft. from where "Little Mary" is buried. My sisters and I were able to walk to his grave last fall with one of the Hillcrest employees. It was pretty spooky but at least we got to see it. Thanks for looking!!!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BGB.2ACI/432 Message Board Post: I'm trying to find information on Richard Holtom/Holton (just two of the spellings I've found for this name). He and his family, wife Emma and children, Jane, Sarah, William(Henry), Thomas and John arrived in the U.S in 1852 and came straight to Jackson, as they had family here already. I find nothing on Richard after their arrival, though. Emma and some of the children are in the 1860, 1870, etc. census as well as various directories. I think he may have died in the 8 years between their arrival and the 1860 census. Would anyone have any ideas or information? I know many of his descendants are buried at Woodland Cemetery, but neither he nor Emma are shown there. For that matter, neither are his son John or John's wife, Florence Belle (Conklin) Holtom. John died Sept. 26, 1926 and Florence died Oct. 17, 1894, according to the old Conklin family bible.

My Charles emigrated to the US in 1845 from Finchingfield, Essex, England. I believe that his father's name was Thomas and his mother's name was Mary. I hope to know more information soon, as I have sent for his birth records and they should be coming soon. Many people did move back and forth from Michigan, Canada, and NY in the mid-19th century, so it is possible that they may have married in Michigan, moved to Canada and back, etc. If I find a link in my materials, I will post it here for you. Surnames: Gunn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BGB.2ACI/422.2 Message Board Post: Hi Jill, Any idea if your Charles Gunn was related to a John Gunn who married Mary Marsh in Jackson Co., on 9 Nov., 1851? I am looking for a 'John M. Gunn', born c1824 in Canada, whose parents were both born in Scotland. My John M. Gunn was somewhere in Mich., when one of his children was born c1867, but I've not been able to locate where in Mich. I am not certain that the John Gunn who married Mary Marsh was in fact, my John M. Gunn, as other records indicate that my John did not immigrate into the US. from Cananda until 1862. However, my John did name an older daughter, "Mary M". who was born c1856. Also, the 1880 census indicates that my John M. Gunn's oldest 3 children were born in Canada, not in the US., so if my John was the same John who married Mary Marsh in Mich. in 1851, then they must have married in Mich., but returned to Canada for the birth of several children, then immigrated into the US., in 1862. My John M. Gunn also had a son he named Charles S. Gunn, who was born in 1880 in Kansas, which made me look at you. Might you have any knowledge of where your Charles or his parents were born, or have you any knowledge of him being connected to a John M. Gunn? I do see a John Gunn listed as living in Jackson Co., on the 1870 census index, in the Rives Township, page 604, however the census images are not coming up today for some reason, so I've not been able to check him out yet. The known children of my John M. Gunn were: Mary M., John A., Andreso G., Lillian A., Ella E., Frank K., Cora M., Ivy G., and Charles S. These were the ones listed in his home in 1880. He appears to be married to a younger woman at this time, named Agness, and there is a 9 yr. age gap bwt. the older 3 children and the younger 6, so I'd assume he was married to someone else previously (maybe Mary Marsh) and may have other grown children out of the home by then that I do not yet know of. Thanks for any reply! Christi

The guestbooks at www.jacksonmich.com make for some interesting reading. With a little reformatting and a search engine it could be a great web site. It might make sense to create a separate history and genealogy guestbook so readers don't have to wade through the adverts and all. Marian Tainter & Richard Godfrey witnessed a marriage & I believe they are cousins, see below: Sophia Jaycox was Sophia Godfrey, d/o Elisha Godfrey & Polly Barden, she married Henry Jaycox. My Polly/Mary Godfrey was b. March 26, 1804 in NY & married Daniel Tainter in Washtenaw Co., MI on May 29th, 1832. Richard Godfrey in second marriage you listed below is Sophia Godfrey Jaycox sister & Marian Tainter is Polly Godfrey Tainter's daughter. Do you know anymore about these connections? I would like to hire a genealogist in MI to find details on the Fifield Cemeter where the Tainter headstone is & inf. on the Godfrey, Tainter, Jaycox families. Polly Tinter & her family are listed in the 1850 Census of Rives or Tompkins & in 1860 she is using the Godfrey surname with her children.
