In my first message I put the wrong year for the 1920 Census and age. I found Sam Daykin on the 1930 Census in Wayne Co, my understanding that he went back to Jackson during 1930. Are there any cemetery records available on the net.

No, I haven't seen the 1881 History of Jackson county, although I think it's probably available at the Bentley and I will look for it there. My James Pierce is James Pieronnet Pierce who was born in Pennsylvania to a Henry Miller Pierce, but I think there are many related Pierces in New York. I will also get to the Ann Arbor branch of the Family History library and check out the film on Jackson marriages. Thanks for the responses! Santa Traugott

Have you checked this out yet? There is a bio on N.B. GRAHAM who married Mary Pierce, daughter of James Pierce, who was born near Rochester, NY in 1830. It didn't say who her mother was. I think you can find the e-mail address for the library on the USGenWeb, also the court house information. I think the whole building is closed right (library) now because if any of that stuff gets air born, it can be bad for people. That's why it cost so much to have it taken care of. Our librians are very helpful.

Nice to make your aquainance, cousin. I haven't stopped to figure us out.4th sounds good. I see our connection with your Maria & my Jackson Delamater. I have the Connecting with our Past : Claude LeMaitre Book by Philip Delamarter. I also contributed our Jackson Delamater & Elizabeth Hollister lines down to present day, including our granddaughter born in 2001, just before printing. Do you have the book? or seen it? When recently visiting the Allen co Library in Fort Wayne, IN, I was amazed to find it there. Where do you live?, I am in Novi, MI. My Mom's cousin, Nancy Clark Lake lives in Jackson and has taken us around to the Highland cemetery in Columbia and showed us the farm and other Johnson family highlights, where my Mom was born in Jackson, etc. I really only get to Jackson about once a year, for the last couple of years. You asked if I wanted more info on recent cousins?, Is that a joke? to us genealogists. Certainly would. In my book I show Maria & Hiram Tuthill's family are Burr, Frances & Mary. Where do you fit in? My Grandparents were James Andrews & Edith Johnson, both from Jackson. My Mom Joan Patricia Andrews & her sisters were born there as well. They all came to Detroit area when my Mom was about 6, 1934ist. My GGrandparents George Johnson & Florence Delamater, both buried in Highland cemetery, Brooklyn, MI My GGGrandparents Jackson Delamater & Elizabeth Hollister both buried in Highland cemetery as well. Do you have any family photos you would share? Hope to hear back from you soon Kathy Lombardi mzfmlytr@cs.com

LDS has a microfilm of it (which I have seen). It is their film #0857305. Several of the marriages therein were performed by my GGGF, Daniel Hedges Pierson, who was JP of Springport. Very often (not all) it lists residences and ages of the couple, witnesses, and officiant. Good Luck.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BGB.2ACI/448 Message Board Post: This marriage is listed in Michigan Marriages, 1851-1875, which I think is just an index to marriages. My question is, if I went to the courthouse or the clerk's office, would I find any more information than just the date -- August 25, 1852 -- and the county, Jackson? Is there something equivalent to a marriage license on file, which might give witnesses, who performed the ceremony, place of residence of the bride and groom, etc.? I am confused about this because the county clerk office information says they don't have marriage license before 1867 but reading this Board, it seems like the Courthouse might???? The Peases were apparently a large family from the Grass Lake area, but I can't find them (or James Pierce) in the 1850 census listings. Does anyone know anything about them? Also -- third question, I guess -- Is the Local History room in the Carnegie Library accessible while the library is undergoing renovations? Thanks very much for any input! Santa Traugott

I do have access to them and had overlooked the info regarding Nettie's family. There appear to be 2 lines of CLARKs in Grass Lake area, that of Aaron Sr. (Aaron Jr. was in Waterloo) and that of this James and an older James, possible his father. All out of NY. They are found as neighbors on some census, so I believe there must be a connection, but I've been unable to find it yet. In the 1850 census, there is an Alvin Clark whom I've found was b. Saybrook, CT 13 Nov 1798, d. 1875, Warren, IL Wife was Jane HARE b. NY. With him is Beaumont b. 25 July 1767, CT, likely his father. His brother Eleazer remained in Grass Lake. This may be a key to connecting the others. I live in Grass Lake and there are still Clarks here on one of the original homesites. They appear to be of the James Clark line. I'd be very interested in corresponding with others researching the families in Grass Lake.
