Grace was the fourth child of Mary May Davis and James A. Root. She was never able to get a copy of her birth certificate, Springport Twp, Jackson County, MI. Eventually her older brother signing an affidavit that he was ten years old and remembered when she was born was accepted by the State of MI so that they could give her a certificate to use for social security etc. Can anyone tell me what happened to the courthouse or at least to the records in the courthouse during the period of time between her birth in 1900 and her requeset for a certificate in 1950 that caused this loss of information? Thank you, Jeanine

I think you mentioned that you know where they are buried. I'd write to the cemetery to see if they have any information on their index cards. If you know when they died you could also write to the library to see if any obituary was in the newspaper. Address's can be found on the USGenWeb for Jackson Co., MI Deodatus's bio mentioned Calhoun Co., MI. and Eaton. You could write to the Willard Library in Battle Creek to see if they have something. A lot of Wrights are listed in their news index which is on line at their web site. The Jackson Geneology Society will also do a lookup for a small fee, the info is on the USGenWeb site.

I just rec'd new info on my Wright family from a kind soul... and I'm hoping another kind stranger might be able to look up something for me at the Jackson Library. Hoping to find access to the 1890 Jackson County Portrait and Biographical Album... looking for Deodatus E. Wright who came to Parma Township in 1836. He was the son of Frederick and Sophia (Thomas) Wright - they had four children. I am hoping very much to confirm that Frederick and Sophia are the parents (and Deodatus the brother) of my great grandmother, Margery Wright Murray. Frederick's father was Solomon Wright and Frederick emigrated from Mass to Wayne Co., NY in 1814. My ggmother was born in Mass (or NY depending on which story is believed) in 1810. Anything - any info at all - on any of these people would be WONDERFUL as this has been a brick wall for me for years!!! Thanks very much to anyone who might be able to do this lookup for me!! Patti
