Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BGB.2ACI/398.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I went back to the library today and found a better obit for George. Jackson Citizen Patriot, Sunday, March 17, 1918 George Chessman George Cheesman died suddenly Saturday afternoon at his home, 828 John street. He had been in poor health for yers. He was formerly a miner, but thirty years ago met with a serious accident which prevented hard labor since. There survive him a wife, brother and sister, Robert Cheesman and Mrs. Hollan of Saginaw, a brother, Wm. Cheesman of Grand Ledge and a brother and sister in England. The Jackson city directory does not show Anna Cheesmond after 1918, so she must have gone to live with someone else. In the 1917 directory, there is a Melvin R. Cheesemond who rooms at 128 W. Wilkins and is employed as a forman Mich State Tel Co. In the 1896 Jackson City Directory it lists Mary Cheesmond, widow of Robert, moved to Grand Ledge, Mi. Hope this is of some help to you.

Was she still living at the time of Georges death? You mentioned siblings, so I was wondering if she was still living at that time. Did the obit mention any of the siblings names? Were you able to look for a George King in Jackson? He married someone by the name of Jesse. That is all of the information that I have found so far. Thank you again for your help.

I found a very short obituary for him in the March 18, 1918 Jackson Citizen Press on page 3. It said he died after a long illness and was survived by 3 brothers and 2 sisters and that he was interred in Woodland cemetary. The library has microfilm of Woodland and George Cheesmond was there, but no other Cheesmonds.
Has anyone on the list, Jan perhaps (having grown up in Jackson), heard of Hotel Murray (or Murray Hotel??) I have Murray ancestors who listed this as their address and am extremely curious about it!! Thanks... Patti

Hopefully, it mentions an area where their checks where being mailed to. This does not mean that they lived there, but usually they do. Then write to the local Library in that area and ask if they will look up the obitiuary. That should give you a lead on where some of them are living. Also, try writing post cards or calling people of that surname in that area. Some of them may not want to talk with you, but don't get discoraged. All you need to find is one person who will help you. Good luck.
