Hello, I just subscribed to this list in hopes of contacting the person who posted this: -----Original Message----- From: miiosco-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:miiosco-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Michael Kellogg Sent: Saturday, May 07, 2011 10:43 AM To: MIIOSCO@rootsweb.com Subject: [MIIOSCO] Branch county research Dear List I will be visiting Coldwater & Quincy in early July to do some on-the-ground family research. As this will probably be my only time to the area (I live in western Canada) can anyone advise me as to where to go and where to look for records etc which cover the 1840-1900 period? I am interested in the history of Coldwater & Quincy for this time period as well. yours genealogically Michael Michael, I live in Coldwater and would be happy to correspond with you and help you if I am able. Please send an email to me at mjbickford@frontier.com The library in Coldwater is where you probably want to start, if you need information. Maybe the Courthouse, located next to the library, and I can show you where the cemeteries are located. I can also look up cemetery information ( I have the books at home). Mary J. Bickford

    1. Re: [MIIOSCO] Branch county research
    2. Michael, you may want to post to the Branch Cty list also. Be sure to visit the Library on US 12/Michigan Ave/Chicago Road (east/west road). Don't know the n/s cross road but you can't miss it. It has a round tower. The inside is wonderful. If you're driving 12 there are a number of small towns you may find interesting to visit. There is a stretch from Allen to ?? that has a lot of antique shops as well as an old time village with building that were moved there from the area. If you should decide you need to go to the Library of Michigan (in Lansing, our capital) they are open Monday-Friday. No weekend, holidays or furlough (unpaid) closed/off days. Be sure to check their web site for hours. There are many good resources there also. The one I have made major use of is the state wide newspaper collection on microfilm. Doesn't have every state paper nor all complete date ranges but neverthe less extremely useful. I wish you a safe research trip finding what you need. Enjoy Michigan, there is lots to see here.
