While on a recent excursion to the Burton Historical Collection at the Detroit Public Library, I ran across this gem... An Ionia man said that he recently started to climb his family tree until he ran into an Indian and a circus performer when he came down again and decided to do no more delving into the past. Ionia Sentinel-Standard Monday, April 22, 1935 edition, page three, under "City and Country".
