My thanks to Al Dawson for posting the Monk marriage record (below) from Kent County. Does anyone know who James' parents were? Although I am not a descendant, I have done some research on Monks in Ionia County, because they are descended from my McDonald ancestors. I wonder if this James Monk was a son of John (son of Philip Monk and Margaret McDonald) and Annie Monk. Philip and Margaret helped raise my 3rd great-grandmother, Margaret McDonald, (the wife of Hugh Dodds) whose mother died at her birth.
