    2. Sorry for taking so long to answer but so many irons in the fire will do that. I want to say "Thank You" to all those who helped with the directions to Oakhill Cemetery. I personally have only been to Ionia once in my life but I don't think I will have any trouble finding the cemetery. Again, Thank you. Dianne

    1. W's are all online
    2. J. Cortez
    3. The W's are finished on the Ionia County Divorces and I have them uploaded. Also I have received the S's - which will complete the Divorces. Thanks Brenda.... Wow that is a big file - over 700 names.. I'll be working to get those online - very soon. Pam tells me that we are now moving to births, then deaths and tax records! Wow! From the looks of things we are going to make Ionia County, MI. one of the best USGW sites on the web. You have a super genealogical society out there working and contributing loads of work and materials, of which I am very proud to be associated with as the site coordinator. THANK YOU!!!!!!! Stop in and see if you make a connection on the W's. http://www.rootsweb.com/~miionia/iondiv.html Jan Cortez Ionia County Coordinator

    1. Re: probate search
    2. Pamela K. Swiler
    3. Hello Valerie, I think I can answer your question. You may access probate records by visiting the Ionia County Court House, Probate Court Office. They have an index where you look up the person's name and then they get the file for you. The files are on microfilm and the cost is $1 per page to copy them. I recommend that you schedule your visit to do research in Ionia on Tuesday thru Thursday, as the offices at the courthouse are VERY busy on Mondays and Fridays. I also recommend that you visit our website for more information on doing research in Ionia County. Specifically: http://www.rootsweb.com/~miionia/librarie.htm I wish you much success... 1. Ionia County USGennet Boards
    2. Just to keep you all up to date on what is happening with the Ionia County Boards. You no doubt have seen the URL's sent into the MI List listing the new addresses. It seems that some where along the line there has been a miscommunication between USGennet and the Ionia County MIGenWeb site, as well as several other county sites. In any event that has been taken care of and I thank USGennet for finally figuring out what the problem was and correcting it. When I get home from work - I will connect the boards to the site as before. Thank you so much for your patience and also your help in sending notes to Mr. Smoot about our problem. You're a great group!! My apologies - and promise to get you all up and running this evening. Jan Cortez Ionia County Coordinator

    2. Does anyone know how to best access this probate case? I've never delved into court records yet. I found this posting on a recent trip to the Burton Historical Collection of the Detroit Public Library main branch--(web reference for those interested: <A HREF="http://www.detroit.lib.mi.us/burton/">Detroit Public Library - Burton Historical Collection</A>). The Tuesday, September 17, 1935, edition of The Daily Sentinel Standard of Ionia, Michigan had: "Estate of Nila L. and Avis B. Bluemly, minors.  Annual account of guardian." I believe this was in reference to the death of their (presumed) father, Frederick H. Bluemly (Dec 1869or70 to May 15, 1930).  His widow, Bessie (Thayer) Bluemly (later remarried as Whipple) may have been their guardian. I would appreciate any help or insights/suggestions. Thank you. 3. > I was amazed to discover all the genealogy software available for those of > you who are using Palm Pilots for your day planner. I bought my Palm Pilot specifically to use GedStar (was GedPalm) (only a genealogist would spend that much money to run a $12 program, huh?). I can go to the Library of Michigan without carting a lot of folders, and the Palm fits into a shirt pocket. The last time I was at the Library, I ran into some information on people several generations back that I hadn't planned to research. If I had been depending on paper copies, I wouldn't have had the information with me to check to see if they were the right people, but all I had to do was check the database on my Palm. I love it! 3. My thanks to Al Dawson for posting the Monk marriage record (below) from Kent County. Does anyone know who James' parents were? Although I am not a descendant, I have done some research on Monks in Ionia County, because they are descended from my McDonald ancestors. I wonder if this James Monk was a son of John (son of Philip Monk and Margaret McDonald) and Annie Monk. Philip and Margaret helped raise my 3rd great-grandmother, Margaret McDonald, (the wife of Hugh Dodds) whose mother died at her birth. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with Monk/Monks connections. Source: M Marriage Records Abstracted from Kent County Court Files 1845-1870 MONK, James (w) 32, Boston, Ionia co., b.
