Hello, Our local Boy Scouts of America district is looking for individuals who may have historical articles of Cub or Boy Scouting interest to display at our Scouting event. Or, individuals with a scouting past who would like to attend or assist in this project. Ionia County has a rich scouting past which goes back a long way, and we wish to portray this history. If you have old uniforms, flags, books, awards, etc. you would like to share for a day please contact me. We would also like to hear from our older scouts who would like to share your experiences with the current scouts. Thank you, Kim Pennock BSA Apollo District Committee Member smyrnami@pathwaynet.com (616) 794-1022
Greetings, Back at the end of October or in November I sent my $55.00 in for a reprint of the History of Ionia County. Can someone let me know when they will be delivered? I thought they were supposed to be done for Christmas. Thanks......... Dennis Clark Dewitt, Michigan Dennis C.

Subject: Story tellers Got this from another relative & thought you might enjoy this. The Story Tellers... We are the chosen. My feelings are in each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called as it were by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bones and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are them and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take their place in the long line of family storytellers. That, is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and put flesh on the bones. (unknown) ________________________________________________________________
Hi to all Ionia Co listers. Please post this on the Ionia web page to balance the newspaper articles displayed. The newspapers of 1879 were sensationalized for the readers of that time. They where full of strong opinions contained few facts and omitted many facts. I do not believe they reflect what really happened in Ionia in 1879. St. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church Can anyone provide an address for this church in Ionia County. Don't know what city. Thanks for any help. Jan
I received a virus this AM in an attachment. I think I caught it and deleted it in time, but do not open any attachment that you receive from me. Go off line and delete the message. Apparently this virus sends itself to everyone one in your address book as an attachment. Sorry for the inconvenience, Dick Barnes
Hi Everyone- I thought I'd pass along something I've been doing for a few years now. I make 4x6" copies of pictures of one or two of my ancestors and send them along in my siblings' and the appropriate aunts' and uncles' Christmas cards. On the back, I write the names of the person or people in the pictures, the date (if I have it), and how the person/people in the picture are related to the person I'm sending it to. This is my way of sharing a little genealogy with family members who otherwise don't care about it. They enjoy looking at these pictures to see if there's a family resemblance. Now after a few years, they each have a little collection of pictures. And who knows? Maybe many years from now a descendant of theirs will find these pictures stuffed away somewhere and feel like they've hit a gold mine. A few things to remember- the photo shop needs a few days to do the work, it will take you time to write the info on the back of the picture, and you need to buy Christmas cards large enough to hold your picture(s). ( Most Christmas cards are are big enough for a 4x6 picture.) There's still time to do this, this year. Happy Holidays! -Deb Trinter

Hello Hope, The web site for Ionia County is http://www.rootsweb.com/~miionia/ I think what you are referring to with the Michigan Map is the Michigan GenWeb site. If that is the case, that website can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~migenweb/ Best wishes!
