    2. I'm not a member of this family and don't know of anyone who is. Thank you for trying to locate a family member to return the photo to. Janet -----Original Message----- From: Shelley Cardiel <[email protected]> To: MIIONIA <[email protected]> Sent: Sat, Aug 24, 2013 12:18 am Subject: [MIIONIA] COGSWELL Family Photograph I've "rescued" an old photograph of Everett COGSWELL which was taken at the Philley Studio in Lowell, Michigan. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Everett only an infant at the time. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Everett and his family: Everett C. COGSWELL was b. 28 Apr 1888 in Boston or Lowell, Michigan to parents William H. COGSWELL (1863-1906) and Zella M. CARR (1864-1925), both parents born in Michigan. Everett married Mary or Marie L. CUNNINGHAM SERVOSS (1882-1972 the dau of Andrew & Elizabeth CUNNINGHAM) on 4 May 1922 in Cedar Springs, MI. Everett was living in Pontiac, MI when he registered for the draft in 1917 listing his occupation as a Cook and his employer as Cliff Root. Everett d. 9 Dec 1962 in Lansing, MI and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Lowell, Michigan. Census records provide the following details: 1900 census of Hinton Township, Mecosta, MI: William H. COGSWELL, age 37, born Jan 1863, married 13 years, born MI, parents born MI/NY, a Farmer Zella M. COGSWELL, wife, age 35, born Oct 1864, married 13 years, 1 child/1 living, born MI, parents born Canada/MI Everett C. 1. [MIIONIA] First Families of Ionia County Workshop 4/13/13
    2. The First Families of Ionia County will hold a workshop on Saturday, April 13, 2013, from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM, at the Freight House behind the train depot, at 1117 Emerson Street, in Lake Odessa. Anyone who is interested in applying for membership in the First Families of Ionia County, is welcome to attend. People will be there to provide help. The First Families certificate is to honor your ancestors who lived in Ionia County before December 31, 1880. You will need to provide copies of documents to prove each family connection. For instance, to prove your connection to your parents, you could use your marriage certificate, if it lists your parents' names, or your birth certificate. Once you have proven your connection to your parents----then you prove that your parent is the child of your grandparents, etc., back to the oldest ancestor(s). Marriage certificates list the parents of the bridal couple. The marriage certificate also proves the change of names for women. A birth certificate or death certificate can prove the connection of child to parents. Once you have proven your ancestors back to 1880, then you have to prove they resided in Ionia County. This can be done with any vital record if they were born, married or died in Ionia County; but the census listing showing them living in Ionia County can prove residency. The First Families membership is an ongoing process. The deadline each year is 8/31. Those who don't qualify for First Families membership because of the date their ancestors came to Ionia County may qualify for our Centennial Certificates if their ancestors came to Ionia County 100 years ago. It is not necessary for you to have all of the documents to come to the workshop. There is no cost to attend.

    3. Yes, It includes anyone who SERVED during the Vietnam Conflict. For example, my husband served with the Army National Guard during this time period, so he qualifies even though he never went over seas. The people who protected our country need to be honored as well as those who fought overseas.
