    1. [MIIONIA] LOCKWOOD- INSLEY Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a group of four photographs including two of Clara Arleen LOCKWOOD and her Mother Elma ROUSH which were taken when Clara was just 4 months old. The photograph is printed on the front of a postcard so I'm guessing it was taken between 1905 and 1920. Elma is identified as the daughter of Emma & Albert ROUSH. The third photograph is a group snapshot photograph identified with the name Helen LOCKWOOD which includes a large family group (18 members) photograph taken on the lawn next to a home. I'm guessing that this photograph was likely taken in the 1920's or 1930's. The fourth photograph is one of Mary ROUSH, Leah ROUSH MORRIS, and Berthel MORRIS which was taken at the Atherton Studio in Reed City, MI. This photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Mary identified as the "Mother of Albert ROUSH" and Leah as "Albert's Sister". Berthel MORRIS appears to be about 5-6 years old, her Mother Leah likely in her 20's or 30's, and Mary ROUSH likely in her 40's or 50's at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding the family: Clara Arleen LOCKWOOD was b. 21 Dec 1916 Maple Valley Township, Montcalm Co., MI to parents Charles Francis LOCKWOOD (1886-1932) and Elma M. ROUSH (1898-1979). Clara was one of three children born to this couple including, Clara Arleen; Charles Harvey; and Richard Albert LOCKWOOD all born between 1916 and 1919. Clara's Mother remarried after her Father's death, she married William Charles DICKEN (1887-1971). Clara married Howard F. INSLEY (1900-1983) and they had two children, Lorane INSLEY EDWARDS (1936-2015) and Jeffery Lee INSLEY (b. 1951). Clara died 19 Aug 1995 in Ionia, MI and is buried in the Smyrna Cemetery in Smyrna, MI. Emma Jane BANNEN was b. 13 Sept 1877 in Beverly, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada to parents Richard BANNON (1840-1919) and Margaret ARMSTRONG (1842-1929) who were married on 26 Apr 1864 in Wentworth, Ontario, Canada. Emma was one of 13 children born to this couple including, Edward; John H.; Catherine Effie; William; Robert Alexander; Isabella; Margaret; Emma Jane; James Herbert; Richard Roy; Walter; Annie; and Thomas BANNEN, all born between 1865 and 1896. Emma married Albert Michael ROUSH (1872-1955) on 29 Mar 1897 in Carol, MI and they had two children including Elma M. ROUSH (1898-1979) and Elzora ROUSH (1899-1948). Albert ROUSH was b. 6 Mar 1872 in Hastings, MI to parents Michael ROUSH and Mary FERGUSON identified below and he died 7 Feb 1955 in Belding, MI. Mary L. FERGUSON ROUSH was b. Sept 1844 in Ohio to parents George Washington FERGUSON (1816-1877) and Christina GUENTHER (1819-1885). Mary was one of 11 children born to this couple including Mary L.; James William; Betsey Ann; George W.; John Martin; Aurora Butler; Charles Michael; Franklin FERGUSON and three others, all born between 1841 and 1873. Mary died in 1922 and is buried in the Reynolds Township Cemetery in Howard City, MI. Leah Elizabeth ROUSH was b. 22 May 1869 in Castleton Township, Barry Co., MI to parents Michael ROUSH (1841-1921) and Mary FERGUSON (b. 1844) who were married 22 Jun 1865 in Sandusky, OH. Leah was one of 8 children born to this couple including, William; George E. S.; Leah Elizabeth; Albert Michael; Willard; Samuel D.; William Henry; and James Arthur ROUSH, all born between 1867 and 1883. Leah married John MORRIS and had only the one child. After the death of her husband John Leah married Ruel F. NEWBERRY (1860-1901) on 6 Jan 1900 in Sault St. Marie, MI. Leah died 3 Jun 1908 in Reynolds Township, Montcalm Co., MI. Berthel "Sherry" MORRIS was b. 19 Apr 1887 in Clare, MI to John MORRIS (b. 1820) and Leah ROUSH and she married Samuel Lawrence FLEMING (1878-1963) on 28 May 1904 in Alma, MI and together they had five children including Baby Boy; Wallace Emerson; John Donald; Leah Isabel or Isabell; and Elizabeth FLEMING, all born between 1908 and 1915. Berthel d. 11 Jul 1979 and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Alma, MI. I am hoping to return these photographs to the family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be. Thanks, Shelley

    2. Dear Shelley, Not my folk - but GREAT JOB ON YOUR DETECTIVE WORK!!! --Al Al Dawson, Iowa City, Iowa - MA, Victorian History, UNC-Chapel Hill, 1973 Visit my ancestral website at:  https://aldawson56.tribalpages.com/ -----Original Message----- From: Shelley Cardiel <[email protected]> To: MIIONIA <[email protected]> Sent: Thu, Feb 6, 2020 6:06 pm Subject: [MIIONIA] BAKER Family Photograph I've "rescued" an old photograph which was taken somewhere in Ohio and mailed by "Edith" (no surname) to a cousin - Mrs. Clayton BAKER in Smyrna, MI.  The photograph was on the back of a postcard which was mailed from Ohio (community name cannot be made out) to Mrs. BAKER on 17 May 1910.  The photograph is taken of a large home with two women and three children on the porch and in the front yard.  The two in the yard appear to be boys from about 4-11 years old, there is a toddler on the porch with two women appearing to be in their 20's or 30's.  There is also a buggy in front of a barn behind the home.  The message on the back of the photograph reads "Dear Cousin - I thought would answer your card, was glad to hear from. Would like to see you it was been about sixteen years since I seen you. This is myself and children, sister-in-law and nephew. Answer, signed Edith" Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: Clayton Charles BAKER was b. 28 Apr 1876 in Nirvana, MI to parents John BAKER (1830-1913) and Susan Anna "Annie" CONDON (b. 1850).  Clayton married Florence A. SLOAN (1886-1929) and they had two daughters, Helen Vivian BAKER (1918-2009) and Bertha Louise BAKER (1925-2018).  His wife was Florence Arvilla "Flossie" or "Lassa" SLOAN b. 30 Jun 1886 in Montcalm Co. MI to parents Dennis H. SLOAN (1852-1923) and Susanne or Susanna A. HAMLIN (1850-1939).  Florence was one of 5 children born to this couple including, Elmer; James; Florence; Claud L.; and John W. SLOAN all born between 1872 and 1894. Flossie's mother was married previously and had another daughter, Blanche M. LYON (b. 1869). Flossie died 12 Oct 1929 in Smyrna, MI and is buried in the Smyrna Cemetery in Smyrna, MI.  Clayton BAKER died 16 Jan 1959 in Smyrna, MI. We believe that Edith was a cousin to Florence SLOAN BAKER but it is also possible that Edith was a cousin to Clayton.  I'm hoping to locate someone from Edith's family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be. 3. Hi Shelley, I taught a descendant of the Samuel Dexter in a genealogy class a while back. He was over 90 years old at the time, but still drove himself to class. I will try contacting him to see if he is related to Clara. I'll post to rootsweb if I can contact him and either way, if he is related or not. 2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of R. H. GOODFELLOW of Clarksville, MI which was taken at the O. D. Stevens Studio in Clio, MI sometime in the 1880's or 1890's. He is likely in his 20's or 30's at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I believe that this is a photograph of Robert H. GOODFELLOW and I've been able to gather the following information regarding Robert and his family: Robert H. GOODFELLOW was b. 16 Apr 1864 in Valcartier Village, Quebec, Canada to parents John GOODFELLOW (b. 2 Jan 1832 in Valcartier, Quebec, Canada-1903) and Sarah or Sara PINKNEY or PINKENNY (1835-1906). Robert was one of 8 children born to this couple including, Robert; Abraham; Janet Ann; Robert H.; John J.; Benjamin Thomas; Edman or Edmond; and William Whillian GOODFELLOW, all born between 1860 and 1875 in Quebec Province. Robert married Leno or Lena Loretta YORK (b. 26 Oct 1878 in Atlas Township, Genesee Co. MI-d. 27 Nov 1948 in Castle Rock, WA - dau of Jeremiah F. YORK and Rachel Ann BAXTER) on 1 Sept 1897 in Goodrich, MI. At the time of their marriage Robert was living in Clio, MI, they later lived in Clarksville, MI where Robert owned a Drug Company called R. H. Goodfellow & Company. The couple went onto have 5 children including, Robert Lee; Rachel I.; Warren Casper; Loretta Leno or Lena; and Lola Lillian GOODFELLOW, all born between 1898 and 1916. Robert died 30 Apr 1932 in Castle Rock, WA and is buried in the Whittle and Hubbard Cemetery in Castle Rock, WA. Census records provide the following details: 1900 census of Campbell, MI: Robert GOODFELLOW, age 35, born Apr 1865, married 2 years, born Canada, parents born Canada, to USA 1880, a Druggist Leno GOODFELLOW, wife, age 21, born 1879, married 2 years, 2 children/2 living, born MI, parents born MI Robert L. 3. If your early ancestors to Ionia County came from Germany or Prussia or any of its other names in history, try the new records available on familysearch.org. My search this morning found the Prussian marriage record of my husband's third great grandparents (the immigrants). It lists the exact marriage date and the names of all four parents including maiden names. I also found birth and christening records of this 3rd-great-grandmother's siblings. Also the village where they were christened. I just now searched for another Prussian great-great-grandparents' records and again found a marriage record with all parents including maiden names. God is good today. Try your luck. I am going to search for other great-great-grandparents to see if I can extend my children's heritage even further.
