He was abandoned by his mother when he was 5 and placed in Coldwater Institute in Battlecreek. After years of being sent from one family to another, he ran away from the Institute. He was caught and sent to Industrial School for Boys. I spoke to someone years ago and they told me that children were sent there for doing "delinquent" offenses, such as running away(which was the case with my grandfather). I tried to get those records, but I was told they are sealed and I would have to get a court order to get them. If you have had any luck, please let me know.
