Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hFB.2ACE/1046.2 Message Board Post: Hello. I am trying to find out about Hiram Haynes of Williamston, Michigan in Ingham county. He had a tremendous farm with at least 300 acres at one time. He was very friendly and kind to the Native Americans that camped close to his home. Hiram had lost 4 children in infancy and the Indians gave him one of their own to raise. His wife, Sarah, apparently did not like the idea and the child was given to Hiram's brother, J. Morris Haynes in Clio, Mich. The child was named Harry Haynes and was raised white. I am wondering if Harry, MY GRANDFATHER, was sent to one of those "Indian schools" or where he went. He married my grandmother, Myrtle Rose Keeney in Lawrence county, Ohio. I am trying to find the Native parents of Harry. Hiram probably knew the names of the Indians who lived close to him. If you find anything, please e-mail me. Thank you so much and God bless. Victoria
