They knew each other. Hiram was friendly to the Chippewas who camped close to his home. He took them food in the winter. I believe that Hiram found a child/baby and wanted to raise the child, as he had lost several children of his own, but his wife Sarah did not want him(perhaps due to the time(1877, the year after Little Big Horn, or perhaps some other reason.) They divorced in 1878 and Hiram married a lady named Clara. My grandfather was raised by Morris Haynes and Mary Geer/Gear/Greer(on the birth and death certs, it is spelled Geer). Morris was a possible relative of Hiram. Hiram had a son named Morris. I am trying to find the names of Harry Haynes's biological parents(which is probably impossible). My grandfather met my grandmother, Myrtle Rose Keeney around 1903-1905, in Chesapeake, Ohio. I don't know why he went to Ohio then, but he and Myrtle had two children, Faye(1905) and my mother, Carol C.(1907). He did not know about my mother, as he had left Ohio before then. He was supposedly driven off by my great aunt, Annie Belle Keeney, at least that is what she told my mother when we went to see her when she was very old. My mother never knew her father. I have done a lot of research trying to find my grandfather's Indian heritage. According to my research, Chief Okemos had children and it just seems logical that my grandfather COULD be one of them or a grandchild. Maybe I am completely off track but my reasearch seems to point in that direction. Native American geneaology is very difficult. Any information would be useful. Hiram had taken a trip to Calf. He ma! y have met Clara's father there. Incidently, my grandfather, Harry J. Haynes is buried in St. Petersburg, Fl. He has no grave marker. His birth place is listed as Fenton, Mich. He was raised in Clio, and later lived with his mother, Sarah, in Detroit. He came to Fl. around 1945, I believe, and was married twice before he died in 1966. In his obituary, my grandmother was never mentioned, nor did she ever talk about him. She did carry his name but I have never found any record of their marriage, (at least not yet). I haven't done much research lately as I have had other priorities). In the 1910 census of Chesapeake, Ohio, Myrtle and her children were living with her parents, Lorenzo and LeahAnn Keeney. She was listed as a Widow! Probably to save face and embarassment. If you need any more details, please just E-mail me directly. Thank you and God bless you.
