Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hFB.2ACE/942.1 Message Board Post: In the "History of Livingston Co., Mich.," pg. 195, it states that Hezekiah Gates from Eaton, Madison Co., NY, settled in Howell in 1838, in section 15, near his friend Benjamin J. Spring. Hezekiah married in NY to Caroline Clark. In 1845, he built a public house in Howell known as "Union Hall." He afterwards was a contractor on the Detroit & Grand River Rd. He later moved to Williamston, where he commenced building a hotel, but died before it was completed. His remains were brought to Howell for interment.
