Deseased has been absent considerable during the past few years on business connected with his patent churn, and left here but a few weeks ago to go up north on business matters but it seems never got any farther the Dewitt, where he stopped with a cousin, remaining there until his death. He was born in Dover, Morris county, N.J., June 20, 1810. In early life he removed to the state of New York, where he was married to his surviving widow, and reared a family of nine children. About 14 years ago he came to Mason. He leaves a wife and eight children, of whom Chalon L., Chas C. and Steven V. are residents of this city. His remains were brought to this city Friday evening and his funeral took place at the residence Sunday afternoon, Rev. W. Doust officiating, assisted by Rev. C. D. Ellis. Quite a large company of old acquaintances and friends were present. Ingham Co., News Aug. 9, 1883 p1 Chas. S. Casterlin, father of C.C., Chalon and S.V. Casterlin of this city, died at the residence of Samuel Tucker, in Dewitt, Last Friday morning, age 73 years 1 month and 15 days, of inflammation of the liver. He was sick less then a week. His remains were brought to this city last Friday evening, and he was buried last Sunday, Rev. Mr. Doust preaching the sermon. Mr. Casterlin had lived in Mason during the greater part of the last fifteen years.
