Hittle Margaret J. Hittle, a former teacher who was active in Michigan educational affairs, died Friday in a retirement home in East Lansing, Mich. She was 97 years old. Mrs. Hittle was born on a Michigan farm. After graduating from Ypsilanti (Mich.) Teachers College, she began her career in education as the teacher in a one-room, eight-grade schoolhouse on Bois Blanc Island in the Strait of Mackinac. She later taught in schools in lower Michigan. After her marriage to Harry F. Hittle, a lawyer, county prosecutor and Michigan State Senator, she became active in the Parent-Teacher Association and was a president of the Lansing (Mich.) P.T.A. She was also president of the House and Senate Club while her husband was president pro tem of the State Senate. Mrs. Hittle is survived by a daughter, Jean Nilsen of Johnson City, Tenn.; a son, Brig. Gen. James D. Hittle, U.S.M.C., retired, of Washington, a former Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs; four grandchildren, and six great- grandchildren. Harry [Faron] Hittle - b.
