I just received two death certificates I ordered. Both are typed copies rather than photocopies of the original. For Jane McRae, they list her parents as Charles MLaui and Mary Monson. I know that they were actually Charles McLean and Mary Morrison. For John McLeod the names of the parents are merely McLeod (father) and Arrn (mother). If I sent another $8.00, could I request an actual photocopy of the death certificate. Some I sent for last year came as photocopies but recently they have all been typed transcriptions. Obviously the handwriting is difficult to read but I would like a chance to puzzle it out myself. On the plus side, I sent and extra $8.00 for John McLeod's search because I didn't have an exact date of death. They returned that to me. I have always found the Houghton County Clerk's office to be very helpful but their new policy makes more work for them -- someone has to type it out -- and defeats some of what I would like to know, for instance who gave the information about age, etc. Since it is done in years, months, and days, it is obviously someone who knew John very well. Hi, I believe that the information that is typed is taken from a book, like an index. They might photo copy the line for you. I have done research there and if I requested a death certificate, they typed it from the book. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marion Markham" <mmrbm@ameritech.net> To: <MIHOUGHT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 30, 2003 4:54 PM Subject: [MIHOUGHT] McLeod DC > I just received two death certificates I ordered.
