Alicia, does anyone have access to the city directories for the 1800's. I'm still looking for my great grandfather John Girgen and his wife Elizabeth Young. I think they arrived in the copper country sometime after 1868. From 1864 until 1868 they were in Rockland. That is where their 2 sons were born. Any help is appreciated. Hi Jean, go to the houghton site and pick the 1870 census, then go to page 132 and i found John and Elizabeth Gershen.Maybe these are your family, the name is mispelled. http://www.mfhn.com/houghton/ You need an acrobat reader for the census. If the page freezes up on you, you will have to download one.
