I am not related to the family of Martin and Victoria Flens. My research colleague and I are interested in the Polish immigrants to Calumet, Michigan. Many of them came from Poznan Province and the towns of Bnin, Kornik and others in that area. Here is what I have about Martin Flens. >From the Poznan Marriage Project - Martin Flens (23) married Victoria Jasnik (23) in Mosina in 1868 record #14 Victoria Weichman (18) married John Jackniak (20) in Zabno in 1863 record #6 NOTE - There is another Martin Flens in the Mosina marriage records. We need to be careful we have the correct man. >From ship passenger lists - Martin Flens 4 June 1873 from Glasgow to NYC on the ship Samana Victoria Flens 14 July 1897 from Antwerp to NYC on the ship Berlin with four children >From the articles of incorporation - St. Stanislaus Kostka Society in Calumet 10 February 1875 Martin Flens was one of the signers >From "History of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan" Chicago: Western Historical Company, 1883, p. 307. - St. Stanislaus Kostka Society Martin Flens, Secretary He does not appear in the 1874 Michigan State Census for Calumet nor in the 1880 U.S. Census for Calumet. I "speculate" that he returned to Poland for several years. 1895-1896 Houghton County Polk Directory Flens, Ignatius miner res 70 Tam location Flens, Martin sprinkler bds 3935 Temple 1910 U.S. Census Buffalo Ward 8, Erie, New York Martin Flener, 65 Victoria Flener, 64 three others 1920 U.S. Census Buffalo Ward 15, Erie, New York Martin Hens, 75 living with daughter Sophie Wolski I have published a couple of articles about the Poles in Calumet in genealogy journals. In the event that I would like to use the Martin Flens family in a future publication, I would appreciate having a photograph of him.
